A demonstration of historical musical instruments with Peter Hellert, Dr. Karl-Konrad Tschäpe and Halina Muchow will take place on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. in the Museum Viadrina (Kurfürstensaal). The event is aimed at children aged 10 and over, young people and adults.

On Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., school pupils will have the opportunity to gain an insight into the various professional fields of the city administration. From advising citizens to emergency medical assistance and civil engineering: There are many variations of administrative training and study professions. The Future Day offers individual advice and an opportunity to talk to trainees and students from the city administration.

What do grandma's birthday party and a city festival have in common? How can you make it snow on stage in spring? Where is the chaser? And how do a drum kit and a bass guitar need to be miked to produce the best sound? Answers to these and many other questions will be given to young people from grade 7 onwards on April 25 at Frankfurt's Kleist Forum. Messe und Veranstaltungs GmbH will be presenting the diversity of its training professions as part of this year's "Future Day for Girls and Boys in the State of Brandenburg".

Historical traumas and political disputes continue to put a strain on relations between Poland and Germany. The war in Ukraine intensified Polish criticism of Germany's role in Europe and its policy towards Russia. It became clear once again how history influences German-Polish relations and how much the willingness to come to terms with the past can influence mutual perceptions. On Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11:30 a.m., Frankfurt photographer Hartmut Kelm will be giving an "Introduction to Photography" for children aged ten and over and interested adults at Museum Viadrina, Carl-Philipp-Emanuel-Bach-Straße 11. For the book "An Impossible University" about the adventurous founding period of the new Viadrina, Berlin artist Christian Rothenhagen drew 30 views of the city. On March 21, the Praxisforschungsstelle (PFS) für Lebensmodelle im Alter auf dem Land was opened in the Heinersdorfer Kulturzentrum. After years of intensive work by many stakeholders, the steering and budget committee (StuBA) of the federal and state office for lignite remediation made a decision last week that was not only fervently hoped for in Frankfurt (Oder). According to the decision, the federal mining rehabilitation company, Lausitzer und Mitteldeutsche Bergbau-Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbh (LMBV), will be responsible for the rehabilitation of Lake Helene near Frankfurt (Oder), which has been closed as a bathing area for almost four years.

Dr. Olesia Lazarenko from the Ukrainian Lectureship at the Viadrina Language Center is offering the free intensive course "Journey through Ukraine: Language and Culture" from Tuesday, 19 March in the university building at August-Bebel-Straße 12. It is aimed at anyone who is learning or has already learned Ukrainian as a foreign language and would like to improve their language skills and learn about the history of some Ukrainian cities and famous cultural sites.

An ageing noblewoman, a young man, an even younger woman and a lecherous baron provide material for great emotions and plenty of confusion. The guest performance by Staatstheater Cottbus can be seen on March 15 and 17 at Frankfurt's Kleist Forum.

On Thursday, March 14, the Cinestar cinema at Große Scharrnstraße 68–71 will be showing the German-language version of the award-winning film "Green Border" by Polish director and Viadrina Prize winner Agnieszka Holland. The multi-perspective drama deals with the refugee crisis on the border between Belarus and Poland. This will be followed by a discussion with Viadrina student and founder Lava Mouslam, who fled to Germany from Syria in 2015.
