What drives Germany and Poland apart and keeps them together

Historical traumas and political disputes continue to put a strain on relations between Poland and Germany. The war in Ukraine intensified Polish criticism of Germany's role in Europe and its policy towards Russia. It became clear once again how history influences German-Polish relations and how much the willingness to deal with the past can influence mutual perceptions.

This connection will be examined by historian and Viadrina alumna PD Dr. Agnieszka Pufelska in her lecture at the European University on Wednesday, 24 April at 6.15 p.m. Under the title "Dominance and Interdependence in German-Polish Relations", she will ask what has driven Germany and Poland apart or kept them together, what remains of past conflicts between neighbors and what can be done to overcome them. Interested parties are cordially invited to the Logensaal of the Viadrina, Logenstraße 11. The event can also be followed online. Registration for the livestream: https://forms.europa-uni.de/form/provide/1565/

Prof. Dr. Dagmara Jajeśniak-Quast, Director of the Viadrina Center of Polish and Ukrainian Studies, will commentate, Viadrina historian Prof. em. Dr. Gangolf Hübinger will moderate. Gangolf Hübinger will moderate the event, which is part of the Viadrina Research Factory B/ORDERS IN MOTION in cooperation with the series "Grenzgespräche" of the Oekumenisches Europa-Centrum Frankfurt (Oder) and the Viadrina Center of Polish and Ukrainian Studies.
