What opportunities and challenges does economic cooperation in the German-Polish border region offer? This will be the topic of the conference "The German-Polish Border Region: Economic Cooperation between Vision and Reality" at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) on Thursday, April 18, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event in the Logensaal, Logenstraße 11, offers researchers, entrepreneurs, political decision-makers and students a platform to discuss current developments in the German-Polish border region - especially in the twin city of Frankfurt (Oder)-Słubice and the Eurostadt Guben-Gubin.

In short presentations and a panel discussion, the following people will present their perspectives on the German-Polish economic area and enter into conversation with the guests:

  • Daniel Sadecki, graduate of the European University Viadrina, will present his master's thesis, in which he compares the business locations Frankfurt (Oder)-Słubice and Guben-Gubin.
  • Prof. Dr. Joachim Ragnitz, ifo branch Dresden, classifies the results of the master's thesis and shows parallels to other border regions in Germany.
  • Mariusz Rzeźnikiewicz, Viadrina graduate and representative of the Bundesverband Der Mittelstand (BVMW) e. V., reports on practical examples of German-Polish cooperation.
  • Prof. Dr. Dagmara Jajeśniak-Quast, Director of the Viadrina Center of Polish and Ukrainian Studies (VCPU) at the European University Viadrina, identifies current challenges in German-Polish cooperation.
  • Dr. Christian Ehler, Member of the European Parliament, explains what support can be expected from the EU for the German-Polish border region.
  • Bartłomiej Bartczak, Viadrina graduate and mayor of the city of Gubin, will speak about successful German-Polish cooperation in the Eurocity Guben-Gubin.
  • Dr. Martin Wilke, member of the Frankfurter Netzwerkstatt and settlement and business consultant, will report on his experiences with business settlements in the German-Polish border region.

The event will be simultaneously translated into German and Polish. Journalists are cordially invited to report on the event.
