Company visit to the Quirito Academy Frankfurt (Oder)

The topic of recruiting employees and skilled workers is at the top of the agenda, especially for small and medium-sized companies, and is essential for a stable economy. At the same time, there has been an increased influx of people from different countries and regions to Frankfurt (Oder) for years, who need to be integrated into the local labor market.

Education providers play an important role here, as they act as an interface between employers and potential employees with their qualification, training and further education programs. This is why Mayor Claus Junghanns and Jochem Freyer, Chairman of the Management Board of the Frankfurt (Oder) Employment Agency, recently visited the educational institution Quirito Academy Frankfurt (Oder) to find out about the integration offers for refugees and migrants in the labor market.

Mayor and Councillor for Economic Affairs Claus Junghanns: "In many conversations with Frankfurt's entrepreneurs, I can see very clearly that companies are concerned about the next generation and securing jobs and skilled workers. We must therefore make use of all potential and get people who have found protection here or have come to us for other reasons into work as quickly as possible. In this way, we can both counter the shortage of skilled workers and promote the integration of immigrants through work".

During the discussion, Quirito Academy Managing Director Alexander Ludwig introduced two Ukrainian employees who only came to Frankfurt (Oder) after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Within two years, they had acquired their first knowledge of German and now work in the company's sales and marketing department. In conversation, they reported that many refugees would like to take up employment immediately, even if their language skills are not yet sufficient.

Jochem Freyer, Chairman of the Management Board of the Federal Employment Agency: "With the federal Turbo initiative for the labor market integration of refugees, we want to place refugees in jobs even more quickly and in a more targeted manner. We don't want to wait until refugees reach a high level of language proficiency; language skills also develop further on the job and the new contacts help with social integration. In individual cases, we organize an extra-occupational language course in parallel."

In April 2024, the Frankfurt (Oder) city administration's economic development department is planning an information event for regional companies and HR managers to provide information about support options and funding for the employment and integration of refugees. The aim is to make better use of the existing workforce potential for the regional economy and to support companies in recruiting skilled workers.
