A demonstration of historical musical instruments with Peter Hellert, Dr. Karl-Konrad Tschäpe and Halina Muchow will take place on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. in the Museum Viadrina (Kurfürstensaal). The event is aimed at children aged 10 and over, young people and adults.

On Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., school pupils will have the opportunity to gain an insight into the various professional fields of the city administration. From advising citizens to emergency medical assistance and civil engineering: There are many variations of administrative training and study professions. The Future Day offers individual advice and an opportunity to talk to trainees and students from the city administration.

What do grandma's birthday party and a city festival have in common? How can you make it snow on stage in spring? Where is the chaser? And how do a drum kit and a bass guitar need to be miked to produce the best sound? Answers to these and many other questions will be given to young people from grade 7 onwards on April 25 at Frankfurt's Kleist Forum. Messe und Veranstaltungs GmbH will be presenting the diversity of its training professions as part of this year's "Future Day for Girls and Boys in the State of Brandenburg".

Historical traumas and political disputes continue to put a strain on relations between Poland and Germany. The war in Ukraine intensified Polish criticism of Germany's role in Europe and its policy towards Russia. It became clear once again how history influences German-Polish relations and how much the willingness to come to terms with the past can influence mutual perceptions. Historian and Viadrina alumna PD Dr. Agnieszka Pufelska will examine this connection in her lecture at the European University on Wednesday, April 24.

"Where to put the corpse?" is the all-dominant question in "Prey", a pitch-black English comedy that can be seen as a guest performance by Uckermärkische Bühnen Schwedt at Frankfurt's Kleist Forum on April 20.

On Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11:30 a.m., Frankfurt photographer Hartmut Kelm will be giving an "Introduction to Photography" for children aged ten and over and interested adults at Museum Viadrina, Carl-Philipp-Emanuel-Bach-Straße 11. The event is part of his exhibition "Frankfurter Unterwelten: Photographic Discoveries".

"The drones above me and the moral law within me – (in)security and freedom in the 21st century" – this is the title and topic of an international conference hosted by Mykolas Romeris University (Vilnius) together with the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) on Thursday, April 18. The English-language conference, which will take place in Vilnius and as an online broadcast, is supported by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Lithuania.

What opportunities and challenges does economic cooperation in the German-Polish border region offer? This will be the topic of the conference "The German-Polish Border Region: Economic Cooperation between Vision and Reality" at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) on Thursday, April 18.

For the book "An Impossible University" about the adventurous founding period of the new Viadrina, Berlin artist Christian Rothenhagen drew 30 views of the city. They show Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice in the early 1990s, as seen by those who came to study or work at the nascent European University at the time. With "Mephisto", Frankfurt's Kleist Forum is presenting a substantial theatrical version of Klaus Mann's novel of the same name on March 23 and 24. The guest performance by the Hans Otto Theater in Potsdam tells the story of a German everyman who has to choose between career and ideals and succumbs to the fascination of evil. Half an hour before the performance begins, there will be an introduction to the play in the foyer with dramaturge Christopher Hanf.

Lecture as part of the Viadrina Mentoring – On Thursday, March 21, Claudia Müller, Managing Director of the Female Finance Forum, will speak on the topic: "Money makes the world go round: You, your money and your life decisions." The lecture and a subsequent panel discussion on structural discrimination and the financial freedom of women is part of this year's opening and closing event of the Viadrina Mentoring Program in the Senate Hall in the Viadrina main building in Frankfurt (Oder).

On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., "Baking for the Easter Bunny" will take place for children aged 7 and over at Museum Viadrina. It is aimed at anyone who is learning or has already learned Ukrainian as a foreign language and would like to improve their language skills and learn about the history of some Ukrainian cities and famous cultural sites.

Richard Strauss' best-known opera "Der Rosenkavalier" is all about love, instincts and intrigue. An ageing noblewoman, a young man, an even younger woman and a lecherous baron provide material for great emotions and plenty of confusion. The guest performance by Staatstheater Cottbus can be seen on March 15 and 17 at Frankfurt's Kleist Forum.

On Thursday, March 14, the Cinestar cinema at Große Scharrnstraße 68–71 will be showing the German-language version of the award-winning film "Green Border" by Polish director and Viadrina Prize winner Agnieszka Holland. The multi-perspective drama deals with the refugee crisis on the border between Belarus and Poland. The Network for Healthy Children (NGK) is training volunteer family mentors again this spring. On Tuesday, March 12 and Wednesday, March 20, 2024, the NGK team invites you to an online information event at 1 p.m. each day. As part of the plans to renovate and redesign the Magistrale in Karl-Marx-Straße, the city is now inviting people to the third public workshop. On Thursday, February 22, 2024, the exhibition "Friedrich Wilhelm Höhn. A Prussian police captain in Japan. A Search for Traces 1885–1891" at the Memorial and Documentation Center "Victims of Political Tyranny", Collegienstraße 10. The special exhibition is dedicated to the international interrelationships of Brandenburg-Prussia's police history using the example of Friedrich Wilhelm Höhn (1839-1892), who was born in Güstebiese (Gozdowice) in 1839.

A pitch-black comedy about faith in the good, human weaknesses, divine arbitrariness and the power of self-deception can be seen on February 17 and 18 at Frankfurt's Kleist Forum. "Adam's Apples" is the musical version of the 2005 Danish feature film of the same name, staged by director Reinhard Simon with the ensemble of the Uckermärkische Bühnen Schwedt and a specially assembled project choir.

The mat is their stage: in the new production by the Bürgerbühne at the Kleist Forum, five young high-performance wrestlers explore their own extreme sports biographies. "Sekundenglück" is a performance between competition, dance theater, lecture and video installation and celebrates its premiere on February 14 at the Studiobühne. Director Hannes Langer and his team are working closely with the Frankfurt Sports School and the Hansa 90 wrestling club on the project.

On Tuesday, February 6, 2024, from 11.15 a.m. to 12.45 p.m., the scenic reading with sounds of "Von einem der auszogog, das Fürchten zu lernen" will take place in the Kurfürstensaal of the Viadrina Museum. The event is aimed at children aged six to ten. The fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm will be brought to life with sounds and noises during the reading. The children can also get active on site and produce some sounds themselves.
