During the holiday period, the vetting and registration process for apprenticeship contracts is in full swing at Brandenburg’s three Chambers of Industry and Commerce (IHK). The Brandenburg apprenticeship market offers school leavers a wide range of training opportunities to get their careers off to a good start. The Brandenburg IHKs have compiled a list of apprenticeship places, companies offering work experience placements and holiday jobs, as well as a wide range of advisory services, events and application tips.

In the early 1990s – Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice were separated by a bridge with strict border controls and long queues – it was a bold and unprecedented idea: the establishment of a joint cross-border German-Polish teaching and research institution. Some three decades later, Dr Krzysztof Wojciechowski, the long-standing director and architect of the Collegium Polonicum, looks back on the ‘dream of a border university’. 

The Rainbirds' planned anniversary concert on 29 May 2026 in Frankfurt's Messehalle will take place in a new, even larger setting. Instead of the previous date, visitors can now look forward to a special highlight in the summer: The Rainbirds will play the greatest hits from their band history on 11 July 2026 as the main act on the main stage of the HanseStadtFest "Bunter Hering".

The Protestant church district of Oderland-Spree invites organ players, piano players and interested parties to a summer organ course in Seelow from 11 to 18 July 2026, accompanied by a varied programme.

Three days of international music, performances, workshops and guided tours – that’s the student-organised festival “HE(A)RING – wortzart”, running from Friday 10 July to Sunday 12 July in the garden of the Kleist Museum. As part of the HanseStadtFest “Bunter Hering”, this festival invites visitors to a musical oasis. In a relaxed atmosphere, they can enjoy performances by musicians from Germany, Poland and beyond, take part in creative workshops and discover the Kleist Museum on guided tours. 

Anne Rabe will be in conversation with Prof. Dr Benjamin Lahusen, a legal historian at Viadrina University, under the title ‘Democracy is being saved in the East’, discussing political experiences, democratic culture and social change in eastern Germany. The East Brandenburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) is focusing on digital, practical knowledge transfer: the 2nd IHK Webinar Week will take place from 5 to 7 May 2026. Under the motto "MORE KNOWLEDGE. With the IHK", entrepreneurs and their employees will receive compact expert knowledge – free of charge and conveniently via Microsoft Teams.

The Protestant parish of Eisenhüttenstadt is showing the exhibition "Women in Divided Germany" in the community center from 13 February to 3 July 2026. The division of Germany has been history for over three decades. But many clichés about women from East and West Germany persist to this day. Where do these attributions come from? And how much is really behind them? The exhibition explores these questions.

How far does the influence of European law on national constitutional law extend - and where are its limits? The conference "Europeanisation of Constitutional Law - a German-Polish Perspective" on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) will address this key question. The Michael Linckersdorff Foundation invites you to a multifaceted summer art festival on Sunday, 21 June 2026 from 3:00 p.m. The varied programme extends across the castle forecourt, the castle and the historic teahouse.

In Frankfurt (Oder), this year's International Day of Brick Gothic is focussing on burial and memorial culture. Under the title "Over and out! Or? – Themed day of commemoration culture in St. Mary's", there will be a series of lectures with a panel discussion followed by guided tours and walks through churches and the urban space on Saturday, 20 June between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. in St. Mary's Church in Frankfurt (Oder).

What will the agriculture of the future look like? The Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) will be providing answers to this question at the German Government’s Open Day. Visitors can find the ZALF at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Home Affairs (BMLEH), Wilhelmstraße 54. 

When researchers don't sit in a lab or library, but instead make an audience laugh on stage on a Friday evening, it's time again for the Brandenburg Science Slam! For the fifth time, the presence centre is inviting scientists from all over Brandenburg to the Kulturfabrik in Fürstenwalde.

The closing event for the “NUDAFA Real-World Laboratory” project is taking place at the Technical University of Applied Sciences in Wildau. The focus will be on innovative solutions for inter-municipal cycling, the launch of a new reference book, and the results of several years of practical trials. 

How will our world change if artificial intelligence produces content faster than we can check it? This question is the focus of the Fake News Festival, which is taking place for the first time in Frankfurt (Oder) and the region from Thursday 18 June to Saturday 20 June. Developed by students and researchers at the European University Viadrina, the free festival brings together academic perspectives, participatory formats, debates and entertainment.

The einsA Start-up Centre of STIC Wirtschaftsfördergesellschaft MOL mbH, the East Brandenburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Frankfurt (Oder) Chamber of Crafts – East Brandenburg Region and the Brandenburg Economic Development Agency (WFBB) invite anyone interested in starting a business, entrepreneurs and those involved in business to the 4th East Brandenburg Start-up and Entrepreneurship Day on 18 June 2026 in Strausberg. Under the motto “Impulse. Opportunities. Future”, visitors can look forward to an inspiring programme offering valuable insights, direct contact with experts and numerous networking opportunities.

The alumni of the European University Viadrina Dr Kerstin Hinrichsen and Dr Markus Nesselrodt will present their newly published city guide "Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice" in a book presentation followed by a discussion on Wednesday, 17 June at 6.30 p.m. The event will take place at the Stadt- und Regionalbibliothek, Bischofstraße 17, 15230 Frankfurt (Oder). Admission is free of charge.

Under the motto “Moving together”, a wide range of activities invites visitors – especially the youngest ones – to get involved. Those who complete several activity stations will be rewarded for their sporting spirit. At the heart of the colourful hustle and bustle are the many stalls selling the workshop’s own products – from ceramics and textiles to handmade one-off pieces. The range is complemented by guest vendors from the region, who provide even more variety.

Under the motto "60 Years – 60 Places", the "Junge Camerata Dresden" chamber orchestra from the Saxon State High School is currently touring Germany. On Saturday 13 June at 5 p.m., it will perform at the Bürgerkirche St. Marien Frankfurt (Oder).

As part of the 31st Brandenburger Landpartie, the open farm and stable weekend, 35 certified organic farms are inviting visitors to enjoy festivities, guided tours and culinary delights.

The next special public tour of St. Mary's Church in Frankfurt (Oder) is on the programme: on Wednesday, 10 June at 3 p.m., the focus will be on the important stained glass windows in the choir. Under the motto “Pioneering Aerospace”, the ILA Berlin will once again be focusing on the future of aerospace from 10 to 14 June. The University of Applied Sciences in Wildau will also be in attendance, showcasing its research topics and range of courses at the exhibition. Among other things, a student project will be showcased in which students on the Aeronautical Engineering/Aviation Management course are developing aircraft that use as little material as possible whilst still demonstrating stable flight characteristics.

The cultural and social scientist PD Dr Stefan Wellgraf will be a guest at the European University Viadrina on Tuesday, 9 June 2026 at 4.15 pm. Shortly before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the public event will bring together the topics of football, right-wing extremism and East German history.

Hybrid-electric drives, sustainable aircraft technologies and new approaches to climate-friendly flying are the focus of the trade fair presence of Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) and the Center for Hybrid Electric Systems Cottbus (chesco) at the ILA Berlin Air Show 2026. From 10 to 14 June, researchers from the university will be presenting their current work at the joint stand of the Berlin-Brandenburg capital region in Hall B, Stand 320.

City Cycling is a competition in which the aim is to cycle as many everyday journeys as possible in a climate-friendly way for 21 days. It doesn't matter whether someone already cycles every day or has rarely travelled by bike so far. Every kilometre counts – especially if it would otherwise have been travelled by car. This year, the competition will take place from 7 to 27 June 2026.

Climate responsibility, gender roles, new worlds of work and Germany's contribution to peace in Ukraine - the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) is taking part in the Long Night of the Sciences with topics that are currently much discussed and pressing. Viadrina researchers will be presenting their scientific insights and inviting people to join in the discussion.

With the concert "Come on up to the House", St Michael's Church in Woltersdorf invites you to a special musical experience with the LIMESTONES. In addition to classics of bluegrass music such as Wayfaring Stranger, I Saw The Light and Dark As The Night, the programme also includes some of the LIMESTONES' leader Frank Müller-Brys' own works.

With "Blueprint", they not only created a song, but a real blueprint for sophisticated pop music. The sound of the Berlin band around singer and songwriter Katharina Franck still proves its worth four decades after its foundation: When pop is done well, it goes straight to the heart. The Rainbirds can be seen at the Messehallen Frankfurt (Oder) on May 29, 2026.

The tour loops over the hills of Märkische Schweiz, offering a varied landscape, sweeping views and plenty of food for numerous organic destinations. The start is at Strausberg-Nord S-Bahn station, then cyclists follow the signposted Oberbarnimer Feldsteinroute.

How can differences of opinion be respectfully resolved? Citizens from Frankfurt and Słubice are invited to exchange views with people from other European twin cities on 28 and 29 May. The meeting will focus on the question of how people in the European twin cities are dealing with the current hardening of world views and border issues.

It will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Kleist Forum Frankfurt (Oder). We are also looking for 20 participants from Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice who represent different areas of society.

On the occasion of this anniversary of the signing of the German-Polish Neighbourhood Treaty after the end of the Cold War, the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) together with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation is hosting a public discussion event on Thursday entitled "Cooperation in times of crisis: How much geopolitics is there in German-Polish relations?"

Originally founded in 1964 in Meissen, Saxony, by Martin Schreier and other musicians, the STERN-COMBO MEISSEN toured live from the beginning of 2024 to mid-September 2025 on its extremely successful anniversary tour with well over 60 concerts under the motto "60 years ... the long way". In 2025/26, STERN-COMBO MEISSEN will once again be performing live on many stages across the country.

Interested young people from the seventh to tenth grades are invited to an exciting lecture at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) in cooperation with the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) in Senftenberg.

Around 650 mills across Germany will open their doors on this day. In Brandenburg, 63 of the more than 1,000 mills at 62 locations invite you to discover them, including 20 watermills, 18 post windmills, six Dutch windmills, 14 motorised mills, four paltrock windmills and one barn windmill.

In the instrumentation for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, violin, viola, cello and double bass, the musicians of the BSOF will play the Nonetto by Nino Rotta and the Nonet No. 2 by Bohuslav Martinů. They will also perform the Concertino WV 75 for flute, viola and double bass by Erwin Schulhoff.

As part of Natura 2000 Day, the Natura 2000 team is organising an excursion to the Niewisch riverside meadows. The event will focus on the natural treasures of this small protected area and the Europe-wide Natura 2000 network of protected areas.

The European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) is awarding the 25th Viadrina Prize to the bestselling author, actor and cabaret artist Steffen Möller. With this award, the university is honouring his literary work and his artistic achievements as an entertainer and actor, with which he has contributed in a special way to a deeper understanding between Germany and Poland for many years. The award ceremony, followed by a cabaret show and drinks reception, will take place on Thursday 21 May at 4 p.m. in the Kleist Forum.
