Sustainable mobility is one of the keys to the transport transition in both urban and rural areas. The “NUDAFA Real-World Laboratory for Inter-municipal Cycling Promotion” project demonstrates how cycling can be specifically strengthened through inter-municipal cooperation and innovative practical projects. Following intensive research and testing, the project consortium invites you to the closing event at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau (TH Wildau) on Friday 19 June 2026, from 09:00 to 16:00.
Under the title ‘Promoting Cycling Together’, the event offers a varied programme of political discussions, academic insights and practical themed workshops. The day will be opened by, amongst others, Christian Rudolph, Professor of Cycling at TH Wildau / NUDAFA Real-World Laboratory, Dr Lothar Mennicken from the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space, and State Secretary Volker-Gerd Westphal from the Brandenburg Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Planning.
Book launch and inter-municipal initiatives
A key highlight of the morning will be the launch of the new specialist book ‘Promoting Cycling Together’. This will be followed by a panel discussion featuring State Secretary Volker-Gerd Westphal, Jörg Jenoch (Mayor of Eichwalde), Victoria Juraschek (Ostprignitz-Ruppin district) and Martina Hertel from the German Institute for Urban Studies (Difu) in a panel discussion on how to ensure the long-term success of inter-municipal cycling promotion in Brandenburg.
Knowledge transfer at themed tables
Visitors will learn how practical research was carried out in the real-world laboratory during the morning and afternoon at interactive themed tables focusing on:
- Modular cycle car park,
- Mobility management in schools,
- Quick wins for cycling infrastructure,
- comfortable cobblestones
- participation tools,
- inter-municipal cycle route.
The afternoon programme also features exclusive insights into inter-municipal cycle traffic management, presented by Ute Samland, Technical University of Berlin / NUDAFA Real-World Laboratory, and Martina Hertel, German Institute for Urban Studies (Difu).
Arriving and departing together by bike
In keeping with the spirit of the project, for many participants the event will begin whilst they are already in the saddle. Two guided cycle tours to TH Wildau are on offer:
- Tour 1: Starts at 07:35 at Schönefeld S-Bahn station and goes via Grünau, Eichwalde and Zeuthen directly to the campus (arrival approx. 09:00).
- Tour 2: Starts at 08:45 on the station forecourt in Königs Wusterhausen.
Following the official end of the event at 15:30, there will also be a guided group cycle ride back to Königs Wusterhausen at 15:40.
