Through Buckow’s woods with Helene Weigel’s mushroom-picking permit

The world of mushrooms has always held a fascination – and it also played a culinary role in Helene Weigel’s life. Following in the footsteps of this passion, this joint special event organised by the Adult Education Centre and the Brecht-Weigel-Haus takes participants out into the surrounding countryside. The tour will be led by Juliane Grützmacher, director of the Brecht-Weigel-Haus, and Oliver Türk, an experienced mushroom expert and coach. 

Participants will embark on an exciting journey in which the hands-on experience of nature blends with subtle literary and biographical nuances. Short stories from Helene Weigel’s colourful everyday life make the outing a very special experience. 

Alongside cultural insights, the focus is on in-depth mycology. Türk imparts important basic knowledge about the mysterious life cycles of these organisms. Participants learn to reliably distinguish edible species from poisonous ones and discover which characteristics to look for when they go foraging on their own. 

The walk is aimed equally at experienced foragers and curious beginners. At the end of the tour, a small culinary tasting awaits the group. 

The tour’s running and the success rate depend on the weather; the event will only be cancelled in the event of an extreme shortage of mushrooms. Sturdy footwear is essential. If available, please bring a mushroom basket, a knife, an identification guide and your own provisions.
