For three years, researchers from the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF), together with other partners, have been supporting four organic value-added networks in Brandenburg, identifying success factors, challenges and future scenarios.
On Thursday 27 August 2026, from 10 am to 12 noon, the research team will present the findings of the RegBio2B project in a Zoom conference.
The RegBio2B project investigates local organic value-added networks in Brandenburg. The region is characterised by agricultural land and faces geographical and social challenges – making it an ideal location for a pilot study of regional organic networks.
Looking at the whole system
The project adopted a holistic approach to the organic networks: the researchers examined material and social aspects of the regional organic networks, as well as their interconnections. The aim was to determine the contribution these organic networks make to regional circular systems and social cohesion. Among other things, the researchers explored questions such as: How does the exchange of goods affect social relationships within the network, and how important are shared values for collaborative economic activity?
Challenges and opportunities
In Brandenburg, there is already a significant amount of regional organic farming, but there are also large-scale agricultural structures and a lack of processing and marketing facilities, which hinder regional value creation. Addressing these challenges, the closing event will provide answers to:
- Prerequisites and success factors for bio-regional networks
- Implications for social cohesion within the network
- Practical tips for people involved in establishing and maintaining bioregional value chains
