20 years of the "Kita mit Biss" prevention program

In 2004, the dental service of the Frankfurt (Oder) public health department launched the "Kita mit Biss" prevention program. This was prompted by the findings of the dental check-ups in the daycare centers. The aim was to create an environment that promotes oral health in the city's daycare centers. Practical guidelines for action were developed together with the nursery teachers. "Kita mit Biss" is now an integral part of everyday daycare in 589 daycare centers in 13 districts and four independent cities in Brandenburg as well as in facilities in six other federal states.

Taking over a company instead of starting from scratch – this is the topic of a joint event by the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) Start-up Center and the East Brandenburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce on Tuesday, 5 November at 4.30 p.m. in the Viadrina Senate Hall. At the event, entrepreneur Ronny Gomoll will talk about his experiences. Gomoll took over two companies in 2023 – ABW Abbundwerk GmbH and Holz-Meyer GmbH.

Exhibition on literature and the Artothek opens in the city and regional library

In cooperation with the Cultural Office of the City of Frankfurt (Oder), works on the subject of literature will be exhibited for the first time from October 15 to December 14, 2024 in the Artothek in House 1 of the City and Regional Library, Bischofstraße 17. The exhibition will open on Tuesday, October 15 at 6 p.m. with a reading and introduction to the exhibition by artist Karla Woisnitza.

German-Swedish-Finnish educational exchange

At the invitation of the education offices of the cities of Cottbus, Frankfurt (Oder) and Potsdam and with the support of the Regional Development Agency for Municipal Education Management (REAB) Brandenburg, guests from the Finnish-Swedish twin city of Tornio-Haparanda will be visiting the region from October 6 to 12, 2024 to exchange knowledge in the field of adult education. The main focus will be on exchanging information on the topics of digital education, historical-political education, qualifications in the education sector, coexistence of different cultures, multilingualism and the approaches and foundations of the education systems in Finland and Sweden.

Oder-Spree district takes stock after the floods

Since Sunday, the Oder-Spree district has only been on alert level II, the water levels are continuing to fall and the flood situation is easing. Michael Buhrke, Deputy Mayor and Head of the Department for Internal Administration, Construction and District Development, as well as Head of the Civil Protection Department, gave an initial assessment on Monday: "We were always ahead of the situation, ahead of the alert levels and provided information at an early stage. This principle proved its worth and we got through the flood situation well. The most important thing is that the dykes held."

Mental illness is one of the second most common reasons for employees calling in sick in Germany.
