At the end of the lecture series "How to deal with right-wing extremism?" at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder), practical workshop discussions on dealing with right-wing extremism in Frankfurt (Oder) and the region will take place on Tuesday, January 27, from 4:15 to 6:45 p.m.
Experts from the fields of civil society and local politics, journalism and media as well as democratic conflict resolution in the community will present experiences and approaches from their practice in dealing with right-wing extremism. The event serves to promote exchange and networking as well as the development of concrete options for action, especially for Frankfurt (Oder) and the surrounding region.
Guests include Mirjam Walter (Competence Center for Municipal Conflict Counseling, VfB Salzwedel), Luca Gefäller (Aktion Zivilcourage e. V.), Julius Geiler (Der Tagesspiegel), Thomas Gutke (Märkische Oderzeitung) and Ulrike Polley (Netzwerk "Frankfurt bleibt bunt").
Interested parties are cordially invited to the workshop discussions and a subsequent drink in the Logensaal of the Viadrina, Logenstraße 11, 15230 Frankfurt (Oder).
On Tuesday, January 20, 4:15 to 5:45 p.m., sociologist Prof. Dr. Detlef Pollack (University of Münster) will speak in the penultimate part of the lecture series on the topic "Why do so many in eastern Germany vote for the AfD?". Location: Logenhaus, Logensaal, Logenstraße 11, 15230 Frankfurt (Oder)

About the lecture series: In the lecture series "How to deal with right-wing extremism?" in the winter semester 2025/26, academics and experts from various fields of practice addressed the social and political challenges posed by the rise of far-right and right-wing populist movements. Guests included bestselling author and trainer Tupoka Ogette, Brandenburg's Minister of the Interior René Wilke and educational scientist and right-wing extremism expert Prof. Dr. Heike Radvan.
