Office of the Praxisforschungsstelle Heinersdorf opened

On March 21, the Praxisforschungsstelle (PFS) für Lebensmodelle im Alter auf dem Land was opened in the Heinersdorfer Kulturzentrum. It is a partner in the "Alterperimentale" transfer alliance between BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg and the Catholic University of Applied Sciences Berlin. The aim of the practical research center is to support older people in staying in their home village for as long as possible and actively shaping their lives in old age. The aim is to conduct research together with them and develop suitable living models for the region.

Gesine Schwan as guest at the vernissage "Drawn city views"

For the book "An Impossible University" about the adventurous founding period of the new Viadrina, Berlin artist Christian Rothenhagen drew 30 views of the city. They show Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice in the early 1990s, as seen by those who came to study or work at the nascent European University at the time. At the vernissage on April 17 at 6 p.m. in the Kleist Forum Frankfurt (Oder), the book's editors will be talking to Gesine Schwan, who played a key role in shaping the university as president from 1999–2008.

The war in Ukraine intensified Polish criticism of Germany's role in Europe and its policy towards Russia. It became clear once again how history influences German-Polish relations and how much the willingness to come to terms with the past can influence mutual perceptions. Historian and Viadrina alumna PD Dr. Agnieszka Pufelska will examine this connection in her lecture at the European University on Wednesday, April 24.
