The sustainable use of regional resources is becoming increasingly important for climate protection, security of supply and value creation. At the same time, forest conversion and landscape management face massive challenges posed by climate change. The 22nd Brandenburg Energy Wood Day, to be held on 27 August 2026 in Bloischdorf, will address these issues and also explore social aspects during the subsequent excursion to the new Branitz Tree University.

In June, a total of 14,831 people were registered as unemployed in the city of Frankfurt (Oder), the Märkisch-Oderland district and the Oder-Spree district. That is 190 fewer than in May and 103 fewer than in June 2025. The unemployment rate stands at 6.5 per cent, exactly the same as in June last year.

With the Infrastructure for the Future Act, which has now been passed by the Bundestag, eight key projects for East Brandenburg – for which the East Brandenburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce has long been campaigning – have also been set in motion.

Things are set to get sporty again in the twin towns of Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice: the ‘3, 2, 1 … Start’ event combines sporting competitions and cross-border cooperation with a special focus on the towns’ shared history. The city bridge will serve as the central venue and a symbol of the connection between the two towns.

On Friday 11 September, Frankfurt (Oder) will once again be transformed into a vibrant cultural hub: the Museum Night is celebrating its 26th edition. As a fixture in Frankfurt’s cultural calendar, the event attracts hundreds of visitors every year. This year, the City and Regional Library has a special highlight in store: it is offering an exclusive exhibition space for local artists.

On 14 July, a new child protection outpatient clinic (KIA) was opened at the Rhön Klinikum in Frankfurt (Oder). It is the fourth such clinic in the state of Brandenburg, alongside those in Potsdam, Eberswalde and Lauchhammer.

The summer holidays in Brandenburg have begun, and the Frankfurt Holiday Calendar 2026 once again offers a wide range of activities for children and families this year. With great dedication, children’s and youth organisations, clubs, cultural and educational institutions, and other partners have put together a varied holiday programme: ranging from sporting activities to workshops and excursions, right through to hands-on activities.

Lukas Senn is to become Artistic Director of the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt (BSOF) for the 2027/2028 season. He will thus succeed Roland Ott, who has led the BSOF since 2018. Lukas Senn, who was born in Switzerland, has been the orchestra director at the BSOF since 2024, where his responsibilities include operational management. In this role, he has already played a key part in shaping the orchestra’s strategic and organisational development.

454 new apprenticeship contracts signed – over 170 apprenticeship places still available for last-minute applicants: The skilled trades sector in East Brandenburg has got off to a successful start to the new apprenticeship year. By the end of June, a total of 454 new in-company apprenticeship contracts had been signed in the Frankfurt (Oder) Chamber of Skilled Trades’ district – the East Brandenburg region. At the same time, there are still very good prospects for young people who have not yet found an apprenticeship place to make a successful start to their working lives.

On 10 July, the city of Frankfurt (Oder) received a planning application for a new project by Alcaro. According to the application, the logistics and property company will continue to invest in the expansion of its Frankfurt (Oder) site and plans to build a new warehouse. This Hall C is to cover an area of 20,000 square metres and be built on a 40,000-square-metre plot.
