The extensive reconstruction measures on the A12 federal freeway to optimize traffic flow in the area of the German-Polish border were successfully completed in December 2025. On Wednesday, January 28, the Senate of the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) elected Jendrik Fabisch as the new student member of the Viadrina Presidential College. The 21-year-old student will take up office on April 1, succeeding Ira Helten, who shaped the newly created office during her one-year term as the first student member of the Presidential College.

The European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) has joined the nationwide campaign "Universities take a stand". In doing so, Viadrina is reaffirming its self-image as an open, diverse and democratic university and sending a clear signal for academic freedom, human dignity and the free, respectful exchange of ideas.

In its meeting on 20.01.2026, the Committee for Education, Culture and Sport of the Oder-Spree district decided on the applications submitted for the 2026 project year with a funding requirement of more than 1,500 euros. Applications with a funding requirement of less than 1,500 euros for the second half of 2026 can still be submitted until the end of May.

At the start of the 2026/27 school year, the previously announced 3rd secondary school will open in Frankfurt (Oder). This will expand the range of secondary schools in the city. The two existing secondary schools Heinrich von Kleist and Ulrich von Hutten will be relieved and a contribution will be made to better learning and teaching conditions at all secondary schools.
