New traffic routing on the A12 relieves the border checkpoint

The extensive reconstruction measures on the A12 federal freeway to optimize traffic flow in the area of the German-Polish border were successfully completed in December 2025. The new traffic routing was put into operation on the weekend before Christmas. The aim of the measure is to permanently reduce the massive congestion at the Frankfurt (Oder) freeway border checkpoint and to stabilize cross-border traffic.

New student member elected to the Executive Board of the European University Viadrina

On Wednesday, January 28, the Senate of the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) elected Jendrik Fabisch as the new student member of the Viadrina Presidential College. The 21-year-old student will take up office on April 1, succeeding Ira Helten, who shaped the newly created office during her one-year term as the first student member of the Presidential College.

New "third secondary school" launches

At the start of the 2026/27 school year, the previously announced 3rd secondary school will open in Frankfurt (Oder). This will expand the range of secondary schools in the city. The Austrian historian Prof. Dr. Oliver Jens Schmitt will be presenting his book "Moskaus westliche Rivalen – Eine europäische Geschichte vom Nordkap bis zum Schwarzen Meer" at the European University Viadrina on Tuesday, February 3 at 6 p.m. At the invitation of Viadrina law professor Prof. Dr. Markus Beham, the expert on Eastern Europe will read from his award-winning book, in which he explores the question of what distinguishes Russia's political culture from its western neighbors.
