With the new exhibition "Aufnahmezustand", the Brandenburg State Museum of Modern Art (BLMK) is presenting selected new additions to its collection from the past five years in the Rathaushalle Frankfurt (Oder). A total of 43 artistic positions provide an insight into the continuous expansion of a collection that, with around 45,000 works, is one of the most important collections of modern and contemporary art in East Germany.

The European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) has appointed Prof. Dr Nella Sayatz as Junior Professor of International and European Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure Law as of 1 April. The specialist in international criminal law most recently completed her doctorate at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and her legal clerkship at the Berlin Court of Appeal.

At its meeting on 26 March 2026, the Frankfurt (Oder) City Council unanimously laid the foundations for the development of a large-scale data centre site. The city councillors have thus paved the way for investments of up to 3.5 billion euros. The new data centre is to be built on the outskirts of Frankfurt (Oder) on the 87 federal road, positioning the city specifically as a hub for digital infrastructure in the German-Polish border region.

The East Brandenburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) is focusing on digital, practical knowledge transfer: the 2nd IHK Webinar Week will take place from 5 to 7 May 2026. Under the motto "MORE KNOWLEDGE. With the IHK", entrepreneurs and their employees will receive compact expert knowledge – free of charge and conveniently via Microsoft Teams.

What is driving social and economic change in rural areas – and where is it taking place? A look at rural regions shows: A lot is happening here. Committed individuals, associations, administrations and (social) entrepreneurs are actively shaping change processes in their regions – often in innovative ways. In addition to strong players, places are needed that enable dialogue, cooperation and joint action. What can such places look like and how can they be created, operated sustainably and secured in the long term? Who feels responsible for them?

From the summer semester 2026, the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) will be offering a certificate programme in Ukrainian Studies for Master's students for the first time in Germany. The "Interdisciplinary Ukrainian Studies" programme enables students to take an in-depth look at Ukraine, its history, culture and society. As an accompanying study programme, it offers insights into social, cultural, legal, economic and media studies.

The European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) and the Social Science Institute of the SWPS University of Warsaw invite you to the German-Polish networking event "Doing Democracy: Connecting Academia and Civil Society Across Borders" in Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice on Thursday and Friday, 23 and 24 April 2026, as part of the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA). For two days, the focus will be on impulses, dialogue and exchange in the field of democracy work across the German-Polish border. Interested parties are invited to take part in public discussion formats.

Networking, dialogue and inspiration in a relaxed atmosphere: Casual Friday brings together entrepreneurs and creative minds from the region. This time, the historic site of the OSZ Oder Spree in Palmnicken opens its doors and presents itself as a modern education hotspot. Discovery tours, personal insights into training, start-ups, succession and volunteering as well as relaxed networking over snacks and drinks make up the evening.

How is digitalisation changing the world of work, companies and family life? These are the questions addressed by the lecture series "Digitalisation in dialogue between campus and companies", which will take place at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) from Wednesday, 22 April. The aim of the series of events is to promote dialogue between students, academia and regional companies and to discuss current developments relating to digital transformation in a practical way.

On Wednesday, 29 April, the conference "The Business Bridge 2026: People, Technologies, Borders?" will take place at the Collegium Polonicum. For the first time in this format, the event will bring together stakeholders from Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice to discuss economic development, securing skilled labour, location conditions and cross-border cooperation in the German-Polish twin city. The conference will be held in German and Polish with simultaneous translation.
