City Cycling is a competition in which the aim is to cycle as many everyday journeys as possible in a climate-friendly way for 21 days. It doesn't matter whether someone already cycles every day or has rarely travelled by bike so far. Every kilometre counts – especially if it would otherwise have been travelled by car. This year, the competition will take place from 7 to 27 June 2026. Municipalities and sports associations are cordially invited to join the district.
For the ninth time, the most diligent group (city, municipality, etc.) will once again be sought. Last year's winner is the town of Strausberg, which will have to be beaten. The central opening event is the joint rally of the ADFC-Berlin under the motto: "The future is cycling!". The start is on Sunday 7 June 2026 at 08:30 at the S-Bahn station in Strausberg (suburb).
Background: The Climate Alliance's City Cycling competition invites all members of local parliaments to pedal as a role model for climate protection and to campaign for increased cycling promotion. In teams with residents, sports clubs and leisure cyclists, the local representatives want to collect as many cycle kilometres as possible for their municipality. These are recorded and analysed centrally. The campaign aims to sensitise people to cycling in everyday life and raise awareness of the issues of bicycle use and cycle traffic planning in local parliaments. Cities, municipalities and districts around the world can take part in the campaign. The teams with the most kilometres are awarded prizes – but the most important thing is a liveable environment with less traffic congestion, less exhaust fumes and less noise for everyone.
