Climate responsibility, gender roles, new worlds of work and Germany's contribution to peace in Ukraine - the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) is taking part in the Long Night of the Sciences with topics that are currently much discussed and pressing. Viadrina researchers will be presenting their scientific insights and inviting people to join in the discussion.

Penny Prinz, a student at the European New School of Digital Studies (ENS) at the European University Viadrina, will be presenting her book "After the Revolt - A Travelogue on Surveillance and Resistance in Hong Kong" in Frankfurt (Oder). Interested parties are cordially invited to attend the reading in the Viadrina Coworking Space, Logenstraße 3.

As part of Natura 2000 Day, the Natura 2000 team is organising an excursion to the Niewisch riverside meadows. The event will focus on the natural treasures of this small protected area and the Europe-wide Natura 2000 network of protected areas.

Prof. Dr Eduard Mühle, President of the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder), together with the heads of the partner universities of the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA), has signed the notarial deed to establish an international non-profit association under Belgian law in Brussels. With this step, the alliance is transforming its previously project-based cooperation into a permanent institutional structure. 

The tour loops over the hills of Märkische Schweiz, offering a varied landscape, sweeping views and plenty of food for numerous organic destinations. The start is at Strausberg-Nord S-Bahn station, then cyclists follow the signposted Oberbarnimer Feldsteinroute.

In Frankfurt (Oder), this year's International Day of Brick Gothic is focussing on burial and memorial culture. Under the title "Over and out! Or? – Themed day of commemoration culture in St. Mary's", there will be a series of lectures with a panel discussion followed by guided tours and walks through churches and the urban space on Saturday, 20 June between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. in St. Mary's Church in Frankfurt (Oder).

The Senate of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) confirmed Prof. Dr Gesine Grande as President for a second term of office on 7 May 2026. The re-election represents continuity at the top of the university. At the same time, the decision emphasises BTU's role as a driving force for the transformation of Lusatia. The new term of office will begin in October 2026 following the appointment by Science Minister Manja Schüle and will last six years.

The district of Märkisch-Oderland congratulates the towns of Strausberg, Müncheberg and Seelow on their successful entries in the Brandenburg 2025/2026 city centre competition. Innovative projects for the revitalisation and further development of city centres were honoured at the awards ceremony in Potsdam.

On Sunday, 17 May, the International Museum Day of 2026 will take place. The motto for the state of Brandenburg is "Committed to our museums". The Viadrina Municipal Museum will also be taking part from 11.00 a.m. and is focusing this year's day of action entirely on the two concepts of "commitment" and "volunteering".

The outstanding translator, writer and mediator between East and West, Henryk Bereska, would have been 100 years old on Sunday 17 May 2026. With the anniversary celebration "In the Flow of Words", the Karl Dedecius Foundation at the European University Viadrina and the Karl Dedecius Archive at the Collegium Polonicum are honouring the life and work of one of the most important mediators in the German-Polish cultural and literary dialogue on this day.
