Record number of exhibitors and visitors at the "Career Compass 2024" trainee and job fair

The "Career Compass 2024", the largest training and job fair in East Brandenburg, which took place on 24/25 May in and around the Giebelseehalle in Petershagen, attracted an even larger number of interested parties this year than last year. Hundreds of visitors, most of them 9th–12th grade students, flocked to the fairgrounds as soon as it opened to find out about their career options and make contact with potential employers.

Town hall officially reopened

With 250 invited guests and under special protective conditions, the historic town hall of the city of Frankfurt (Oder) was reopened on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 after extensive renovation work. In the presence of Minister President Dr. Dietmar Woidke and Uwe Schüler, State Secretary in the Brandenburg Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Planning, as well as many guests involved in the construction, financing and further securing of the major project, architect Ralf Fleckenstein handed over a symbolic key to Lord Mayor René Wilke, who is now once again the landlord after more than four years of construction.

Free places for a voluntary year in the twin city and in other European countries

Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice are once again pioneers in a European project: They are the first binational partners to take part in the French initiative for a "Voluntary European Year". From September 1, 2024, six young people from Frankfurt and Słubice aged between 18 and 26 will have the opportunity to spend a year gaining experience that can shape their lives in a special way.

The Märkisch-Oderland district service portal has been launched. It brings together all current and future online services offered by the district administration and enables citizens to apply for government services easily and securely from home. Whether monument permits, internet-based vehicle registration, maintenance advance, health certificates or appointment bookings, a wide range of administrative services can already be found in the new service portal.

Construction work to develop the industrial area on the A12 will begin shortly

Over the next two years, the city of Frankfurt (Oder) will develop the "Industriegebiet an der A12" (IG A12), which was secured under planning law with the B-Plan Statutes (BP-18-002) from 2013, in terms of media technology and traffic. The industrial area on the A12 is located south of the A12 freeway in the Frankfurt (Oder) district, directly next to the Frankfurt (Oder)-West freeway exit and south of the Frankfurt (Oder)-Süd freight village.

The East Brandenburg labor market in April 2024

Slight spring recovery on the labor market / Under 14 thousand unemployed again in East Brandenburg: In the city of Frankfurt (Oder), the district of Märkisch-Oderland and the district of Oder-Spree, a total of 13,976 people were registered as unemployed in April. This is 267 fewer than in March and 334 more than in April a year ago. The unemployment rate fell slightly to 6.2 percent, compared to 6.3 percent in March.
