Autumn revival on the labor market after increased unemployment

In September, a total of 14,825 people were registered as unemployed in the city of Frankfurt (Oder), the district of Märkisch-Oderland and the district of Oder-Spree. This is 515 fewer than in August and 542 more than in September 2024. The unemployment rate is 6.5 percent. In August, it was 6.7 percent and in September last year it was 6.3 percent.

Torsten Hesse, Managing Director of Operations at the Frankfurt (Oder) Employment Agency:
"Unemployment down – Unemployment in East Brandenburg has fallen recently. Of course, we expect this as part of the fall recovery. Nevertheless, it is a positive signal that exudes confidence. The trend was best among the younger unemployed in particular. This shows the success of the close support provided by the placement specialists. We actively advertise for new job vacancies and maintain very close contact with people. Long-term unemployment, on the other hand, remains a challenge and employment growth must first pick up again. It is difficult to forecast the economic development, but it is crucial for the further development of the local labor market.
At the beginning of the training year, there are still some open training positions available, so it is worth making an appointment online with the careers advice service or contacting the two chambers of commerce in our East Brandenburg region."

Marco Schulz, Managing Director of the Märkisch-Oderland Job Center:
"Many people want to work – but sometimes they don't have the right qualifications. The Märkisch-Oderland Job Center works with the Frankfurt/Oder Employment Agency to help people find a good way into work or training. Not everyone can do a full apprenticeship again. And this is not always necessary: short courses or individual qualifications are often enough to get a permanent job again. Many have already successfully made a new start. Whether further training, retraining or a short course – together with the advisors at the Jobcenter, a suitable path can be found for everyone. Appointments for an interview can be conveniently booked online at https://jobcenter-mol.de/termine-online/ or via our app.

A good opportunity to find out more and try things out is also available at the "Bunte Meile" in Rüdersdorf: on October 13 from 10 am to 1 pm, companies and training providers will be presenting their offers. It's all about training, work, further education and qualifications – and of course personal discussions on site."

Stefanie Dörfel, Managing Director of the Jobcenter Frankfurt (Oder):
"Unemployed women in particular often face particular challenges. They are often responsible for family and children, look after relatives and have gaps in their CV that make it difficult to get back into work. They often lack the time, the right support network or simply the confidence in their own abilities. That is why it is important to us to create targeted spaces in which these women can draw new strength, make their skills visible and develop concrete paths into work and qualification. Together with our local partners, we are taking part in the week of celebrations to mark the 180th anniversary of the Mikado multi-generation house from October 6 to 10. The "Courage is good" workshop will be held especially for women during this week, accompanied by our Equal Opportunities Officer."
