In November 2025, Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice will focus on the diversity of political education for a month under the motto "Border Experiences".
More than 40 events at 17 different locations invite people of all ages to engage with democracy, history and current social issues. There will be lectures, discussions, city walks, exhibitions, concerts and a variety of hands-on formats on both sides of the Oder. With a few exceptions, attendance at the events is free of charge.
The focus is on the major issues of the present, social tensions, the crisis of democracy, historical ruptures and, time and again, the question of how to actively shape coexistence. The focus regularly crosses the border. The experiences of the other side from Poland and Germany are incorporated into many events.

Why civic education? Civic education strengthens democratic skills, imparts knowledge about political processes and promotes participation. It is impartial, but not value-free. It is based on the fundamental values of the free and democratic basic order. The aim is to enable people to actively participate in shaping society – especially where social cohesion is at risk.
