Doing Democracy: Civil society and academia network across borders at Viadrina

The European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) and the Social Science Institute of the SWPS University of Warsaw invite you to the German-Polish networking event "Doing Democracy: Connecting Academia and Civil Society Across Borders" in Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice on Thursday and Friday, 23 and 24 April 2026, as part of the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA). For two days, the focus will be on impulses, dialogue and exchange in the field of democracy work across the German-Polish border. Interested parties are invited to take part in public discussion formats.

Business Bridge conference in the twin city

German and Polish business representatives call for the rapid expansion of border bridges

The IHK Ostbrandenburg, the Western IHK Gorzów and the Kostrzyn-Słubice AG special economic zone in Kostrzyn (Küstrin) are jointly calling for the construction of new border bridges and the modernisation of existing ones between Germany and Poland to be expedited. To emphasise this demand, the three partners signed a joint statement on 3 March 2026 in Kostrzyn (Küstrin).

Economy in Berlin-Brandenburg: economy is treading water – structural weakness is becoming more entrenched

The Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region is not getting off the ground economically at the start of 2026. The latest figures from the economic report of the Berlin and Brandenburg chambers of industry and commerce reveal the structural crisis. At 102 points, the economic climate index is now only slightly above the standstill mark (100 points). Two thirds of companies cite the economic policy framework conditions as the greatest risk to business development.
