Faster speeds, more possibilities: Fibre-optic broadband for Frankfurt (Oder)

As soon as the planning is complete and Telekom is able to provide further details on how to commission the connections, further notifications will be issued by Telekom and the local authority. This is because, in order to use a fibre-optic connection, Telekom requires the consent of the property owners. Consent is required to connect the building to the new network. During the roll-out phase, the property connection is free of charge when you sign up for a fibre-optic tariff. Anyone who decides to sign up at a later date should expect further building works and costs of around 1,000 euros, Telekom has announced.

All residents in the roll-out area will be contacted by post and informed about the next steps. Even those who rent can apply to Telekom for a fibre-optic connection. Telekom will then contact the landlords. Discussions will then take place regarding where the fibre-optic cable enters the property and how it is routed within it.

We are therefore delighted that Frankfurt (Oder) is now benefiting from Telekom’s expansion programme. This ensures our city remains attractive and competitive as a business location, and as a place to live and work.”

Diana Lemke, Telekom’s regional manager: “Fibre-optic connections don’t just appear in your home by themselves. Whilst the excavators are still at work in Frankfurt (Oder), the home connection is free of charge when you sign up for a fibre-optic tariff. Anyone who decides to do so at a later date must expect further construction work and costs of around 1,000 euros. It’s worth getting on board now.”

According to Deutsche Telekom, the fibre-optic network enables large volumes of data to be transmitted at higher speeds than with copper cables. Furthermore, the fibre-optic network is more reliable, less prone to disruption and more climate-friendly because it is more energy-efficient than the copper network. With a fibre-optic connection, home Wi-Fi is so stable that several people can learn and work online, browse the internet, stream content and play games at the same time. It also enables businesses and the self-employed to respond flexibly to ever-increasing digital demands.
