As part of the Living Advent Calendar, the cities of Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice invite the citizens and guests of the twin city to join in Christmas caroling in an atmospheric setting on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 6 p.m. in St. Mary's Church, Oberkirchplatz 1.

On December 11, 2024, Wilfried Harald Lausch, the former plant manager of the city of Frankfurt (Oder)'s own sports center, was honored with an entry in the city's Golden Book on the occasion of his retirement. This high recognition was preceded by many years of outstanding work in the field of competitive sport, in particular as head of the Brandenburg Olympic Training Center. For more than three decades, Wilfried Lausch played a decisive role in shaping the sporting infrastructure and performance of the Frankfurt (Oder) sports center.

Every year, Frankfurt musicians Søren Gundermann and Thomas Strauch put us in the mood for the upcoming festive season with their program "Es ist ein Gnu entsprungen" and show that there is still a lot to discover in Christmas songs that are more than 100 years old. On December 11, 2024, the foundation stone was ceremoniously laid for the new fire department technical center at Am Biotop in Strausberg. The district of Märkisch-Oderland has a fire department technical center (FTZ) with an integrated disaster control warehouse to fulfill the tasks of supra-local fire protection and supra-local assistance. The FTZ is also a training and further education facility for firefighters and members of aid organizations.

The Unithea theater festival will celebrate its 25th edition in the twin city of Frankfurt (Oder) – Słubice on June 13 and 14, 2025. Following the positive response to the diverse performances this year, a team of students and employees of the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) is currently working on the preparations for next year's anniversary edition. The focus is on the theme of "Passion". The application phase for artists is currently underway.

From April 2025, anyone wishing to embark on a course of study that individually promotes international career paths is in the right place at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder). Prospective students can now enrol for a variety of Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in the fields of cultural studies, law and economics. Enrolment for the summer semester 2025 runs until March 15, 2025.

At the end of last year, the Verein der Freunde und Förderer des Museums Viadrina e.V. was able to acquire a valuable piece of Frankfurt's city history. It is a so-called Kratervase from the year 1846, which was produced at the time by the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin (KPM). The krater vase can now be viewed on the second floor of the Junkerhaus of the Viadrina Municipal Museum.

Stand-up comedy is booming and the Kleist Forum needs to celebrate this – with a new format that will be shown for the first time in Frankfurt on December 14. Brilliant up-and-coming comedians are invited to the "Stand Up Slam" to present their latest and sharpest gags.

On Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., the children's library at Collegienstraße 10 invites you to the final event of the project "Wörterwelten. Reading and writing with authors". For one year, children from the Bambi daycare center in Frankfurt (Oder) worked on poems, stories and illustrations together with the illustrator and author Isabel Pin.

In the "Our village has a future" competition, "Kummse", as Kummersdorf is affectionately known, took first place for the Oder-Spree district and was awarded the title at district level on December 3, 2024 at Beeskow Castle.
