Sixth-grader Myriam Nour Jannah Kassem from Evangelische Grundschule Frankfurt (Oder) is this year's winner of the city-wide reading competition. She came out on top against the winners from the other Frankfurt elementary school. Myriam read from the book she chose herself, "The Destiny" by Veronica Roth.

Now she can take part in the subsequent district competition at the Brecht-Weigel-Haus in Buckow in Märkische Schweiz in April. The stages of the reading competition lead from the school decisions to city/district, district and state level to the national final with the 16 state winners in Berlin in June 2026.

The reading competition has been organized by the Stiftung Buchkultur und Leseförderung des Börsenvereins des Deutschen Buchhandels since 1959 and is under the patronage of the Federal President. The Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth supports the reading competition.

The competition aims to spread enthusiasm for books to the public, strengthen children's reading skills and help them broaden their horizons.
