The European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) officially opened the Viadrina Center of Polish and Ukrainian Studies (VCPU) on Thursday, November 30. With the VCPU, interdisciplinary research into Polish and Ukrainian history and the present has a new center in Germany.

On December 1, 2023, the state's most important business prize, the "Brandenburg Future Prize" 2023, was awarded to six companies at the Holiday Inn Berlin Airport Conference Center in Schönefeld, two of which were from Oderland-Spree.

As the largest event location in East Brandenburg, the Messehallen Frankfurt (Oder) are a fixed point in the tour schedules of big names from the music and comedy business. Comedian Paul Panzer, the rock band SILLY and Max Raabe will soon be performing live there with the Palast Orchester.

On November 30, Viadrina student Anastasiia Latkovska received this year's DAAD prize for outstanding achievements by international students. The prize was awarded during the opening of the Viadrina Center of Polish and Ukrainian Studies.

The head of the land registry and surveying office of the city of Frankfurt (Oder), Nico Schmidt, has now been appointed city surveying director and civil servant for life. The corresponding certificate was presented by Lord Mayor René Wilke during the last departmental meeting.

Participation in the artist competition open until January 3 – The next edition of the HANSEartWORKS exhibition will be held as part of the 44th International City Day of the New Hanseatic League. The artistic works will be shown from 14 to 30 June 2024 in ŁAŹNIA 1, in the Center for Contemporary Art.

Viadrina Professor of Law and Ethics of the Digital Society, Prof. Dr. Philipp Hacker, is one of the founding members of a new consortium for the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI). The network will be officially presented as part of his inaugural lecture on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 6 p.m. in the Logensaal of the Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder).

Comrade Hardy Güttler has been a member of the Frankfurt (Oder) volunteer fire department in the Booßen district since March 1981. He is still involved there today as a fire brigade commander. In addition, Hardy Güttler has been particularly active in setting up the city fire brigade association and supports the organization and implementation of the annual meetings of the retirement and honorary departments of the Frankfurt (Oder) volunteer fire department.

Brandenburg's Minister of Science, Dr. Manja Schüle, presented economist Dr. Rick Steinert from the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) with the 11th State Teaching Award on Wednesday, 29 November. The economist received the award as one of three particularly committed university lecturers in the state.

From this week and until Christmas, the "Green Market" in Frankfurt (Oder) will take place a little further north than usual. Until December 21, 2023, the "Green Market" will be held directly north of the market square between Frankfurt City Hall, the Sieben Raben and Carl-Philipp-Emanuel-Bach-Straße.
