It has not been this close for a long time. Four graduates of the European University Viadrina's Faculty of Business Administration and Economics pitched their theses at BLOK O in Frankfurt (Oder) on March 14. For the first time, the audience also voted. The exciting topics ranged from the importance of the twin city of Frankfurt (Oder) - Słubice, to the impact of reducing bureaucracy and the challenges of cross-border financing. Finally, Arite Stemmermann took first place with her look at the generation mix in start-ups. She examined the question: "Wisdom of age, vigor of youth: a success strategy for start-ups? The potential of collaboration between junior and senior entrepreneurs".
In addition to first place, the graduate was delighted to receive a trophy, a certificate and prize money of 1,000 euros.
Just behind her was Daniel Sadecki in second place. He investigated whether the twin city of Frankfurt (Oder) - Słubice is the economic center of the border region in Brandenburg and the Lubuskie Voivodeship. The graduate received a cheque for 600 euros.
Third place was shared by Dana Zabel, who examined the cross-border financing of domestic limited partnerships in the construction industry in her thesis, and Lucas Huber, who critically analyzed the Growth Opportunities Act and the Bureaucracy Relief Act IV in his Master's thesis. Both were delighted to receive 400 euros each.
The University Prize has been awarded for 21 years by the East Brandenburg Junior Chamber of Commerce and its sponsoring organization, the Heilbronn-Franken Junior Chamber of Commerce. The aim is to promote young academics with a connection to business.
"The University Prize has once again shown how important it is to offer young talents a platform and promote dialog between science and business. The graduates have all worked on highly topical and interesting subjects. They provide important answers to current questions and challenges," says André Hansen, Past-President of the East Brandenburg Junior Chamber of Commerce and member of the Berlin-Brandenburg State Executive Board.
This year, the University Prize was embedded in the Night of Young Business. Before the presentations of the final theses, rhetoric coach Paul Hilliger delivered a rousing keynote speech on the power of the voice. Over 100 young entrepreneurs from the region used the evening not only for knowledge transfer but also for intensive networking. The evening was hosted by presenter Caroline Marchot.
