This year, the Oderland-Spree start-up partners working group is once again looking for committed entrepreneurs who have successfully implemented their business idea. To this end, the initiative presented the Founder Award 2024 at the East Brandenburg Founder & Entrepreneur Day in Strausberg on June 6.

The application phase for the Kleist Prize for New Drama 2025 is in full swing. Authors have until August 31 to submit their works for the award, which is being presented for the 30th time by the Kleiststadt Frankfurt (Oder), the Dramaturgische Gesellschaft and the Kleist Forum Frankfurt (Oder). For the first time, the age restriction has been lifted; previously, applicants could not be older than 35 at the closing date.

It's finally here again! The outdoor and excursion season! The Oder-Spree lake district is a paradise for cyclists and hikers, but can also be explored in a comfortable and environmentally friendly way using public transport. Whether you take the A400 to the Schlaubetal valley or the Oderbus 879 to the river – there's plenty to discover.

On Children's Day, the dancers from the Ulrika Lang Ballet School impressively presented their skills in their annual public performance at Frankfurt's Kleist Forum. Based on Peter Tchaikovsky's ballet "Sleeping Beauty", the sold-out show was an experience for all participants, relatives, friends and theater fans.

Since March 2024, the Oderland control center has been working with the interpreting hotline of the Berlin-based company Triaphon. By using the hotline, ten other languages in addition to English can now be covered when handling emergency calls. This means that the type of emergency can be determined quickly and appropriate assistance can be organized effectively.

The "Career Compass 2024", the largest training and job fair in East Brandenburg, which took place on 24/25 May in and around the Giebelseehalle in Petershagen, attracted an even larger number of interested parties this year than last year. Hundreds of visitors, most of them 9th–12th grade students, flocked to the fairgrounds as soon as it opened to find out about their career options and make contact with potential employers.

With 250 invited guests and under special protective conditions, the historic town hall of the city of Frankfurt (Oder) was reopened on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 after extensive renovation work. In the presence of Minister President Dr. Dietmar Woidke and Uwe Schüler, State Secretary in the Brandenburg Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Planning, as well as many guests involved in the construction, financing and further securing of the major project, architect Ralf Fleckenstein handed over a symbolic key to Lord Mayor René Wilke, who is now once again the landlord after more than four years of construction.

Cycling is an important economic factor in tourism. Just how important was examined as part of the Oder-Neisse Cycle Route 2023 cycle traffic analysis, which was commissioned by the district of Spree-Neisse/Wokrejs Sprjewja-Nysa on behalf of several project partners, including Märkisch-Oderland.

Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice are once again pioneers in a European project: They are the first binational partners to take part in the French initiative for a "Voluntary European Year". From September 1, 2024, six young people from Frankfurt and Słubice aged between 18 and 26 will have the opportunity to spend a year gaining experience that can shape their lives in a special way.

The Märkisch-Oderland district service portal has been launched. It brings together all current and future online services offered by the district administration and enables citizens to apply for government services easily and securely from home. Whether monument permits, internet-based vehicle registration, maintenance advance, health certificates or appointment bookings, a wide range of administrative services can already be found in the new service portal.
