"Back in the old homeland": How a painting by Carl Alexander Brendel found its way to Frankfurt (Oder)

The Viadrina Municipal Museum is pleased to announce a significant new acquisition: It is an oil painting by Carl Alexander Brendel (1877–1945) from 1928. The painting is entitled "Storm over the Oder Meadows" and shows the hustle and bustle of farm workers trying to get the hay on the Oder meadows to safety in time before the approaching downpour.

Władysław Bartoszewski in caricatures and bon mots – Exhibition at the European University Viadrina

He is considered a thought leader for German-Polish relations and a moral authority in Poland: the historian, publicist and Polish Foreign Minister Władysław Bartoszewski (1922–2015). From Friday, November 15, visitors to the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) can get to know him anew from an entertaining perspective. The exhibition "Władysław Bartoszewski in caricatures and bon mots" will feature caricatures by well-known Polish artists and graphic designers, accompanied by quotes from Bartoszewski.

IHK Ostbrandenburg thanks its volunteer inspectors

Every year, the volunteer examiners conduct more than 4,000 examinations in dual training and continuing vocational training. Without their commitment, securing skilled workers and an efficient economy would be unthinkable. On 8 November, the IHK Ostbrandenburg honored this dedicated work at the examiner reappointment ceremony in the Kleistforum Frankfurt (Oder). This ceremony, which takes place every five years, was a solemn moment of thanks.

Annual balance on the East Brandenburg training market: Fewer young people unplaced – many training places still registered

The number of apprenticeships registered with the employment agency in East Brandenburg is almost exactly the same as last year. In Frankfurt (Oder) and the districts of Märkisch-Oderland and Oder-Spree, employers from the regional economy and administration registered a total of 2,339 company-based apprenticeships, which is 2 fewer than in the previous year.

20 years of the "Kita mit Biss" prevention program

In 2004, the dental service of the Frankfurt (Oder) public health department launched the "Kita mit Biss" prevention program. This was prompted by the findings of the dental check-ups in the daycare centers. The aim was to create an environment that promotes oral health in the city's daycare centers. Practical guidelines for action were developed together with the nursery teachers. "Kita mit Biss" is now an integral part of everyday daycare in 589 daycare centers in 13 districts and four independent cities in Brandenburg as well as in facilities in six other federal states.

Oder-Spree district takes stock after the floods

Since Sunday, the Oder-Spree district has only been on alert level II, the water levels are continuing to fall and the flood situation is easing. Michael Buhrke, Deputy Mayor and Head of the Department for Internal Administration, Construction and District Development, as well as Head of the Civil Protection Department, gave an initial assessment on Monday: "We were always ahead of the situation, ahead of the alert levels and provided information at an early stage.
