The 15 East German chambers of industry and commerce that make up the Heringsdorf Circle are calling on the German government to submit a bid for Expo 2035 in the Berlin-Brandenburg capital region to the International Expo Bureau (Bureau International des Expositions) in Paris. Expo 2035 can actively support structural change in Berlin and the eastern German federal states and provide sustainable support through innovation, investment and training.

The latest guest magazine for the twin city of Frankfurt (Oder)-Słubice is now available free of charge at the German-Polish Tourist Information Office and online at www.frankfurt-slubice.eu. The new issue provides a compact overview of the sights, leisure and nature activities on offer in the twin city and its surrounding area – on both the German and Polish sides.

Aiming for images that show what the world of training has to offer - the Brandenburg Chambers of Industry and Commerce in Cottbus, East Brandenburg and Potsdam have officially launched their state-wide trainee photo competition 2026. All trainees in commercial and industrial-technical IHK training professions can take part, regardless of the year of training or the equipment used. The closing date for entries is March 13, 2026.

The Supervisory Board of Messe und Veranstaltungs GmbH has entrusted Florian Vogel with the management of the company until further notice. The 51-year-old has been Artistic Director of the Theaterhaus Kleist Forum since 2016 and as such develops the theater's diverse repertoire. Most recently, he and his team set attendance records.

Unemployment rate rises to 6.8 percent due to seasonal factors - manufacturing industry still without strength: In January, a total of 15,596 people were registered as unemployed in the city of Frankfurt (Oder), the district of Märkisch-Oderland and the district of Oder-Spree. That is 814 more than in December and 27 fewer than in January 2025.

On Wednesday, January 28, the Senate of the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) elected Jendrik Fabisch as the new student member of the Viadrina Presidential College. The 21-year-old student will take up office on April 1, succeeding Ira Helten, who shaped the newly created office during her one-year term as the first student member of the Presidential College.

The extensive reconstruction measures on the A12 federal freeway to optimize traffic flow in the area of the German-Polish border were successfully completed in December 2025. The new traffic routing was put into operation on the weekend before Christmas. The aim of the measure is to permanently reduce the massive congestion at the Frankfurt (Oder) freeway border checkpoint and to stabilize cross-border traffic.

In order to promote innovative product developments and marketing concepts in rural areas, the association awarded the "pro agro Marketing Prize – naturally Brandenburg!" for the 27th time this year. The Gläserne Molkerei was awarded first place in the pro agro marketing prize in the "Food Industry" category for its new caffeine drink from the milk shelf – a great recognition for organic farming from Brandenburg.

The European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) has joined the nationwide campaign "Universities take a stand". In doing so, Viadrina is reaffirming its self-image as an open, diverse and democratic university and sending a clear signal for academic freedom, human dignity and the free, respectful exchange of ideas.

In its meeting on 20.01.2026, the Committee for Education, Culture and Sport of the Oder-Spree district decided on the applications submitted for the 2026 project year with a funding requirement of more than 1,500 euros. Applications with a funding requirement of less than 1,500 euros for the second half of 2026 can still be submitted until the end of May.
