Committed Frankfurters laid the foundation for the desired and long-planned playground in the west of Frankfurt by participating in the citizens' budget in 2022.
In order to realize the first-place proposal of the citizens' budget 2022, a plot of land for the planned playground was first needed. After the vote, the city began an active search for a suitable location. Initially, the search was unsuccessful as the city did not have a suitable plot of land itself at the time. After an intensive search, a suitable piece of land was then found in the previously created building area on Elfriede-Thum-Straße.
The sales negotiations, the land transfer and the necessary surveying work took time. The land could then be prepared for the construction of the playground.
At the beginning, it was necessary to clear the land of contaminated sites. In the meantime, the new playground equipment was selected and procured together with the residents of the district.
In the late summer of 2024, the clearance of explosive ordnance was successfully completed and the site was cleared so that the actual work on the playground could begin: first, the hills and valleys left behind had to be smoothed out.
The administration decided to construct the playground with a large proportion of in-house work – especially in the autumn and winter of 2024/2025. The main work on the playground was then completed in spring 2025. Due to delivery problems with building materials, the remaining work was completed at the end of August 2025.
Now the time has come: the new playground in Elfriede-Thum-Straße in the West district invites children to discover, play and let off steam.
