In the city of Frankfurt (Oder), the district of Märkisch-Oderland and the district of Oder-Spree, a total of 15,753 people were registered as unemployed in February. This is 130 more than in January and 1,141 more than in February a year ago. The unemployment rate was 6.9 percent, the same as in January. In February last year, it was 6.5 percent.
In February, 21 companies reported new short-time work. In January there were 9 companies. As companies have up to three months to report short-time work, the total figures for all companies on short-time work and the employees affected are available with a delay. According to projections, 27 companies in East Brandenburg with 239 employees were on short-time work in October 2024.
Jochem Freyer, head of the Frankfurt employment agency, comments on the situation as follows: "Anyone who is not concerned in these times is not up to date. This also applies to the German labor market. The economic downturn has been going on for a long time now. And business decisions are increasingly being postponed due to pending political decisions. Unemployment figures are already rising considerably in the industrial regions, while companies in East Brandenburg are still holding their own. A special phenomenon is the sharp rise in youth unemployment. An unusually high number of young people are dropping out of training and are only partially motivated to start again. Society needs to invest more in training maturity and career guidance for young people. Our careers advisors recommend doing several internships while still at school and take care of offers."

Marco Schulz, Managing Director of the Märkisch-Oderland Job Center: "Many young people already know what they want to do after school. Some are still looking for a career that suits them and offers the chance of an independent future. For school leavers in 2025, it is now high time to take a closer look at the topic of training and studying. Many training companies and institutions from our region have registered many interesting apprenticeships and dual study places and are now eagerly awaiting applications from interested young people from the region. All pupils who are in their final year of school should contact our youth employment agency now at the latest, with their half-year report in their pocket. Our employees are available for consultations and questions in person, by phone and by mailbox message in jobcenter.digital. Individual online appointments can be made at https://jobcenter-mol.de/termine-online/ in Seelow, Bad Freienwalde or Strausberg and ensure individual and comprehensive advice on opportunities on the training market. In order to support these equalization processes on the training market, the "Training Week" will once again take place from 24 - 28 March 2025 under the motto "Training in Focus - Together for Success!" with various regional activities.

Kathleen Nepp, Deputy Managing Director of the Jobcenter Frankfurt (Oder): "As part of the nationwide "Training Week" from March 24 to 28, the youth employment agency in Frankfurt (Oder) is providing information about the many benefits of in-company training. We are placing a special focus on all young people who have not yet found a training place. At the Youth Employment Agency, we can also help with many individual problems and provide a range of support services to ensure that training is successfully completed. I recommend that all of this year's school leavers who do not yet know what to do after leaving school arrange an individual consultation at the Youth Employment Agency. You should also take advantage of the opportunity to find out about specific training opportunities and current offers and dual study courses on site. The "Uniforms Day" will also take place on March 27 from 14:00 to 18:00 at the careers information center of the employment agency in Frankfurt (Oder). At information stands, trainers and advisors will provide information about careers in the police, the Bundeswehr and other uniformed services, provide information about training and study opportunities, individual career prospects, lateral entry and answer questions about the selection process."
