Worldwide, the victims of gender-based violence are remembered and the importance of joint action against violence in all its forms is emphasized. November 25 makes it clear that violence against women is a violation of human dignity and must not happen to anyone. The focus is on courage, solidarity and concrete actions – from education and prevention to offers of support for those affected. The aim is to create safe spaces, strengthen rights and promote equality so that violence has no place.

Event points

  • The event day begins at 9:00 a.m. with a flag-raising ceremony in the courtyard of honor of the European University Viadrina.
  • Followed by a stop and information island from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the foyer of the Gräfin-Dönhoff building.
  • The day of remembrance ends at 4:30 p.m. with a specialist lecture by Kate Ford on the topic of "Psychological Violence" in the MIKADO multi-generational house at Franz-Mehring-Straße 20. The lecture sheds light on the invisible mechanisms of power and control in close relationships and uses impressive examples to show how subtly psychological violence can begin and how seriously it can develop. The aim is to make visible ways to recognize, address and end psychological violence – a contribution to mindfulness, compassion and civil courage in the entire community.
