A heartfelt family story about three generations, between hope and unprocessed trauma, is told in "Frau Schmidt fährt über die Oder". The production of the Hans Otto Theater Potsdam can be seen at Frankfurt's Kleist Forum.

Poetically and thoughtfully, the protagonist's life story reflects the relationship between Germany and Poland, questions identity and belonging, and exposes the absurdity of nationalism and war.

Susanne Schmidt, one of the many ethnic German immigrants, left her Polish homeland in 1990 to start anew in reunified Germany. She lands in Marktredwitz, Bavaria, where she gives birth to her daughter Annemarie and raises her alone, because her father has remained in Poland due to political ambitions. The years pass and Susanne's hopes for a fairer world in the West are dashed. The homeland and a family secret do not let her go. The experiences she tries to pass on to her daughter lead to resistance and flight. The present cannot detach itself from the past.

For this performance there is a family ticket for 40 euros. It is valid for two adults and up to five young people under 18 years and is available at the box office in the Kleist Forum and in the German-Polish Tourist Information. To the culinary benefit the theater evening becomes already starting from 18 o'clock with the theater menu. The guests expect a seasonal menu, consisting of two or three courses and on request also vegetarian, in the theater restaurant Schroffensteins.
