Foundation stone laid for the primary school section of the "Spree Campus" It is one of the most extensive school construction projects in Oder-Spree: the Spree Campus in Fürstenwalde. Four years ago, the Spree secondary school on Beeskower Chaussee was opened - on Thursday, March 13, the foundation stone was ceremoniously laid for the primary school section of the future "Spree Campus Primary and Secondary School".
District Administrator Frank Steffen opened the ceremony right next to the construction site with a speech in which he emphasized the importance of the new school building for the district. "This elementary school will be a benchmark for good school education in Fürstenwalde," explained Steffen in front of pupils, teachers, the construction companies involved and guests from local politics.
The Oder-Spree district is spending around 39 million euros on the construction of the new elementary school and the associated gymnasium. This figure also includes the demolition costs of the old tax office and the preparation of the site by clearing the construction site and salvaging ammunition. When everything is finished, the school will have 336 primary school pupils in twelve classes. There will also be after-school care rooms and specialist cabinets for business, work and technology lessons, woodwork and metalwork, which were not included in the secondary school.
Becky Meyer-Grunewald, Head of School Administration and Building Construction, also emphasized that the Oder-Spree district is breaking new ground with this construction project: "The idea for this building project was born eight years ago. And now we can look forward to a modern school building that is variable on all sides and will blend in harmoniously with the secondary school."
From her area of expertise, Meyer-Grunewald particularly thanked Ronny Krzyzanowski, who is responsible for the implementation of the construction project on behalf of the district.

A special moment at the laying of the foundation stone was the personal letters read out by pupils from class 7a of the neighboring secondary school. For example, 13-year-old Moritz from Spreenhagen spoke about his wish for a crisis-free future and then placed his letter in a metal time capsule. District Administrator Frank Steffen also filled the capsule with a copy of the Märkische Oderzeitung newspaper as a contemporary document, before he walled the capsule into the foundations of the shell of the "Spree Primary School" in a symbolic act together with the pupils.
The opening of the "Spree-Campus primary and secondary school" is planned for mid-2026.
