Drought years, record levels of wetness and failed harvests show how sensitively our environment reacts to extreme weather conditions. Farmers' livelihoods are at stake and consumers' ability to afford food. There is growing skepticism towards an agriculture that only focuses on maximum yields. In eastern Germany, especially in Brandenburg, soil quality is poor. Erosion and sandstorms are normal, and the fertile humus layer is shrinking. Researchers and innovative farmers are looking for solutions for the "Brandenburg sandbox". Lena and Philipp Adler rely on mechanical weed control and fallow land. Isabella Krause is working with a network to promote the cultivation of chickpeas, which are heat-resistant and improve the soil. The film shows how people are rediscovering the soil as "life insurance".

The Brandenburg Festival of Environmental and Nature Film is showing the documentary as part of its 20th Eco Film Tour at the Parkclub Fürstenwalde, Dr. Wilhelm-Külz-Str. 10A, 15517 Fürstenwalde/Spree. Admission is free. Donations are welcome.

This is an event organized by the Förderverein für Öffentlichkeitsarbeit im Natur- und Umweltschutz FÖN e.V. in cooperation with Naturfreunde Landesverband Brandenburg e.V., Regionalgruppe Fürstenwalde/Spreenland and the Parkclub as a facility of Kulturfabrik Fürstenwalde gGmbH.
