The European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) is participating in the European research network project "Care4Care", which has set itself the goal of improving the working situation of nursing staff. Over the next three years, researchers in six European countries will develop solutions for the care situation at national and EU level as part of the project, which has a budget of 2.7 million euros. It is not only about better pay, but also about social inclusion and the reduction of discrimination and inequalities in the primarily by women and migrants dominated professional field.

The European University Viadrina, represented by Prof. Dr. Eva Kocher (project leader) as well as Dr. Ziga Podgornik Jakil from the "Center for Interdisciplinary Labor Law Studies" (C*LLaS), is thereby concerned with the development of policy proposals for the German federal and international EU policy level. They take a look at country-specific issues and European regulation of the care sector in order to develop measures for improving working conditions and eliminating inequalities in the care sector.

In March 2023, the kick-off meeting of the international research network "Care4Care" was held at the University of Florence in Italy. Once a year, researchers from the European University Viadrina will meet with their collaborative partners from the six other universities:

  • University of Florence (Italy)
  • University of Lund (Sweden)
  • University of Girona (Spain)
  • University of Seville (Spain)
  • University of Rzeszów (Poland)
  • University of Bordeaux (France)

as well as the two EU social partner organizations:

  • European Federation for Family Employment & Home Care and
  • European Federation for Services to Individuals

meet and regularly consult online as well.

The European Horizon project "Care4Care" is scheduled for 36 months - start was in January 2023.
