The 12th state competition "Our Village has a Future" has been held at federal and state level for decades and makes the commitment of the village population to the future of the villages visible. It is designed to support a long-term development process. It is not about singling out and rewarding individual "lighthouse projects". The focus is on the progress made in the holistic development of a village's strengths, which make up its individual charm and lend it quality of life. The results and successes achieved should have a long-lasting effect in the villages and remain tangible in the long term.

We are looking for creative ideas and committed citizens who, together with the administration, the local economy and local associations, actively shape social village development, develop the building and green design of their village in an appreciative, sustainable and sensitive way in dealing with traditional forms of development and allow room for individual solutions.

The district evaluation committee visited the participating villages last week.
A total of five villages successfully applied: Werbig, Dolgelin, Zechin, Ortwig and Reichenberg. In perfect weather, the participants presented themselves in a variety of ways. For example, the protagonists in the village took the commission on a tour of the special features and favorite places, sometimes by chartered bus and sometimes on a leisurely walk.

The evaluation committee will now go into retreat and carry out the evaluations in various categories. The focus will be on the social and cultural integration of young and old, development concepts and economic initiatives, building and green design and the village in the landscape. The best villages in the competition will be recognized and awarded prizes at a festive evaluation and closing event in November.

Nothing will be revealed until then, just this much: the commission was enthusiastic about the initiatives and working groups that were set up in many places specifically for the district village competition. The associated engagement with their own village, the activation of the community and the cohesion are already a benefit for the participating villages!
