On Thursday, January 29, at 6 p.m., the Chairs of Popular Cultures and Social Philosophy at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) invite you to a filmosophy entitled "Lachrevue". This time, the focus will be on a rather ephemeral form of film: funny clips. The public event will take place in the Kulturmanufaktur Gerstenberg, Ziegelstraße 28 a in Frankfurt (Oder). All interested parties are welcome to join in and contribute what makes them laugh the most.

The evening will focus on questions about the shared experience of humor: What do we actually find funny? What happens when we laugh together? And why is it sometimes so uncomfortable when a joke doesn't work? The discussion will be led by Prof. Dr. Daniel Illger, holder of the Viadrina Professorship of Popular Cultures.

Call for participation

In order to provide a diverse basis for discussion, the Filmosophy team is asking for support: We are looking for short clips between one and five minutes long as well as a short written commentary (up to 20 lines) explaining why the selected contribution seems funny and worthy of discussion. Short films, sketches or reels from comedy formats such as YouTube, TikTok or Instagram are permitted. Excerpts from films are not permitted.

The contributions selected by the Filmosophy team will be shown as a compilation at the event. The comments submitted will be included anonymously in the subsequent discussion input. The team will accept submissions until January 16 by e-mail to hokamp@europa-uni.de.
