On 26.04. at 2 p.m. in Schulzendorf (near Wriezen) the first MOL boxes are released for the commuters.

The MOL boxes are smart bike boxes, which are located at bus stops and allow commuters to ride a bike or e-bike to the bus and store the bike there safely. The MOL boxes make it easier for users who live in the area to leave their cars behind more often on the way to and from work and take the bus instead.

Andreas Jonas, managing director of the STIC economic development company MOL, which is responsible for economic and structural development in the district, emphasizes: "Many people who live here in the countryside have an expensive e-bike or bicycle at home and cannot use it for commuting so far, however, because there are no secure parking facilities for these bikes at the bus stops. The very sturdy and opaque MOL- boxes protect bicycles and e-bikes from theft or vandalism."

MOL Box project manager René Tettenborn adds: "Especially at the stops of the fast PlusBus routes, the MOL boxes are a useful addition. The advantages are obvious: one saves gasoline and money, spares the car and naturally the climate and does besides still something for the Fitness."

Initially, the MOL boxes were built at four locations in the district: In addition to Schulzendorf, the boxes are also in Prötzel, Diedersdorf and in Rüdersdorf immediately available to commuters.

The pilot project is initially about testing the concept "With the bike to the bus" in rural areas and gaining initial experience. If the MOL boxes are well received, it is planned to set them up at other locations in the district.

The project "MOL box" was implemented with grants from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and funding from the district of Märkisch-Oderland.
