In August, a total of 14,039 people were registered as unemployed in the city of Frankfurt (Oder) and in the districts of Märkisch-Oderland and Oder-Spree. That is 477 more than in July and 516 more than in August 2022. The unemployment rate rose to 6.3 percent. In July, it had been at 6.0 and in August last year at 6.1 percent.

In addition to the companies that are currently still working short-time, no other companies reported short-time work in August. Since companies have up to three months to settle short-time work with the employment agency, the final figures on how many companies have actually worked short-time in a month are delayed. According to the projections, 57 East Brandenburg companies and 484 employees worked short-time in the month of April. The short-time work rate was 0.3 percent in April.

Economy limping, labor market trend weakened. The number of jobless claims in August was higher than the previous month and year. Companies' willingness to hire remained subdued. As a result, unemployment increased slightly. However, as the employment level remains very high, we can still be satisfied under the current conditions.

On September 1, the new training year begins in most companies. In the middle of August were still 570 young people in the vocational guidance registered and well 800 free training places listed. A part of the searchers is supplied did not announce itself yet, others decided only in the last moment. All young people and companies who are still looking can contact us. We continue to mediate until October. As long as one can still enter into the new training year.

Jochem Freyer | Chairman of the Management Board of the Employment Agency Frankfurt (Oder)

Over the past few months, we have placed an emphasis on helping our young customers find apprenticeships. Completing an apprenticeship is the surest way to become independent of the Jobcenter's citizen's allowance. At the same time, by supporting young people, we contribute to the skilled labor needs of companies in Märkisch-Oderland. Nevertheless, there are some young people who have not yet found the right offer for them. Right now, therefore, we are once again stepping up all our efforts to enable as many interested people as possible to start an apprenticeship. Young people should also make a note of September 16, 2023. On this day, our regional training day with many interesting offers will take place again in Strausberg.

Gabriele Schoel | Managing Director of the Jobcenter Märkisch-Oderland

After the summer vacations, many young people already have concrete plans and have started training, continuing their schooling or with practical periods. However, not everyone has been taken care of yet. Our employees at the Jugendberufsagentur (JBA) are working flat out to support all unprovided applicants and to find a connection after school, training or even failure to consider applications. Many companies are currently still looking for trainees. Together with the Employment Agency Frankfurt (Oder), there will therefore be a so-called post-placement action on site on September 21, 2023. In the time from 14 to 17 o'clock our advisors are available for this action for you. Jobs can be researched and further offers can be used. In addition, the employer service supports the search of employers for new employees* with a job fair in the park at the same time. We support these actions and want to bring employers and people together. The transition into a job, if possible with a vocational qualification, is essential for a lasting integration. So come by, talk to our employees at the Jobcenter in advance and let's shape your future together.

Kathleen Nepp | Deputy Managing Director of the Jobcenter Frankfurt (Oder)
