"Ein Traum der uns trug/trog" (A Dream That Carried Us/Trough) is the title author Waltraut Tuchen has given to her factual novel, from which she will read at the Frankfurt City and Regional Library on Thursday, June 22, 2023: Karen Wersicke works as a journalist in an SED district newspaper editorial office in the GDR and is soon to take on a management position. Instead, she finds herself punitively transferred to the editorial department of a company newspaper. Thought prohibitions, humiliations and the efforts of the daily balancing act in the editorial work let the journalist doubt more and more.

Waltraut Tuchen, born in Brandenburg an der Havel in 1950, spent her childhood and youth in Neuruppin and the Oderbruch region before going to Leipzig to study journalism.

In 1974, she began her professional career as a journalist, with stints at the district newspaper Neuer Tag, as a company newspaper editor at a construction combine, and finally as local editor of the Märkische Oderzeitung in Eisenhüttenstadt.
