The city of Frankfurt (Oder) has once again successfully participated in the city competition Paper Atlas. The previous calendar year was considered for this.
.The city used in 2021 in the administration 99.75 percent recycled paper with the Blue Angel. The aim is to keep the proportion of recycled paper constant and to reduce paper consumption overall in the course of digitization.
The Paper Atlas maps paper consumption and the share of Blue Angel paper in German cities, districts and universities. The 102 large and medium-sized cities set a new record with more than 93 percent recycled paper. For the first time, 75 districts took part in the district competition, using an average of 85 percent Blue Angel paper. The 50 higher education institutions increased their recycled paper rate to 79 percent.
The Paper Atlas of the Initiative Pro Recycling Paper has been documenting paper consumption and recycling paper quotas in German cities annually since 2008, in universities since 2016, and in counties since 2018. Cooperation partners are the Federal Ministry for the Environment, the Federal Environment Agency, the German Association of Cities, the German Association of Towns and Municipalities, the German Association of Counties, and the German Association of Universities. The Paper Atlas 2022 is under the patronage of Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke.
