The districts and municipalities in Oderland-Spree participate from 1 May to 30 September 2022 on 21 consecutive days in the competition STADTRADELN, which is now held for the 15th time.

STADTRADELN is a competition in which it is a matter of 21 days as many everyday journeys as possible climate-friendly back with the bicycle. It doesn't matter whether someone already rides every day or has so far ridden a bike rather infrequently. Every kilometer counts - especially if it would otherwise have been covered by car. The STADTRADELN takes place annually from May 1 to September 30 on 21 consecutive days. When it goes off, determines the municipality itself.

Already last year, the Landkreis Oder-Spree participated for the first time in the Stadtradeln campaign. Schoeneiche near Berlin, the city of Erkner, the municipality of Grünheide and the Odervorland Office were registered. At the closing event, both the winning municipality and the most successful teams were honored and rewarded with selected prizes. The most cycling-active municipality was Schöneiche bei Berlin with a fabulous 44,068 km cycled. This year, the Oder-Spree district is from June 12 to July 2, 2022 with the game. The Municipality of Grünheide, the Odervorland Office, the city of Erkner and Fürstenwalde/Spree have registered. During this period, everyone who lives, works, belongs to a club or attends a school in the district can take part in the Climate Alliance's STADTRADELN campaign and collect as many bike kilometers as possible.

Registrations of other communities and districts are welcome! Anyone can found a STADTRADELN team or join one to participate in the competition. The cyclists should use the bicycle as often as possible. As particularly exemplary role models, the district is also looking for STADTRADELN stars who will not see the inside of a car during the 21 STADTRADELN days and will switch completely to the bicycle. During the campaign phase, they report on their experiences as everyday cyclists in the STADTRADELN blog. The Germany-wide campaign also selects the most bicycle-active municipal parliaments.

In the district of Märkisch-Oderland, the STADTRADELN will take place from 28 August to 17 September 2022. Municipalities and sports associations are cordially invited to join. For the fourth time, there will again be the challenge cup for the most diligent group (city, municipality, etc.). Cup defender is in the district Märkisch-Oderland the city of Strausberg, which is to beat. The central opening event for the district Märkisch-Oderland will take place on 28 August 2022 in Strausberg. On this day, the "Day of the Child" will take place there. The exact location as well as the time and schedule will be announced soon.

Also the city of Frankfurt (Oder) will participate this year again in the period from 29 August to 18 September 2022 in the STADTRADELN.Further information will be announced in due time.

Background: The competition Stadtradeln of the Climate Alliance invites all members of local parliaments to pedal as a role model for climate protection and to advocate for increased cycling. Working as a team with residents, sports clubs and recreational cyclists, the local representatives want to collect as many bicycle kilometers as possible for their municipality. These will be centrally recorded and evaluated. The campaign aims to raise people's awareness of cycling in everyday life and to bring the issues of bicycle use and cycling planning more strongly into local parliaments. Cities, municipalities and districts worldwide can run the campaign. The teams with the most kilometers will be awarded - but the most important thing is a livable environment with less traffic congestion, less exhaust fumes and less noise for everyone.

About one-fifth of the climate-damaging carbon dioxide emissions in Germany are caused by traffic. Even a quarter of CO₂ emissions from all traffic are caused by inner-city traffic. If approximately 30 percent of short trips of up to six kilometers in inner cities were made by bicycle instead of by car, about 7.5 million tons of CO₂ could be avoided.
