The city of Frankfurt (Oder) and the municipality of Słubice invite the residents of both cities to the second Frankfurt-Słubice Citizens' Picnic on cross-border urban development. The event will take place as part of the "European Festival of Neighbors" on Friday, May 12, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Plac Sybiraków in Słubice.
This year's picnic is themed around the vision of a climate-friendly, attractive and integrated twin city. There will be ecological workshops for all age groups, led by German and Polish experts:
- "Ecology in everyday life - what can I do on my balcony, in my front garden or on the green space in front of my apartment block?": During the workshop, participants learn that waste-free gardening is quite easy. They acquire knowledge to create their own garden, a green space or a planter box on the balcony.
- "My recycling - a second life for objects": Old, worn or damaged objects are usually considered superfluous and disposed of. Yet many of them can be breathed new life.
The participants of the citizens' picnic will learn first-hand the results of the citizens' vote on the results of the first citizens' picnic in September 2022 and receive information about upcoming projects of both cities. Moreover, they can contribute their own ideas for the climate-friendly development of the twin city.
There will be vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian food from the grill. In addition, all participants are invited to bring their own dishes to share. A separate table will be available for this purpose. For the little ones, a bouncy castle will be set up and ice cream will be distributed.
The citizens' picnic is a joint event of several partners: the city of Frankfurt (Oder), the municipality of Słubice, Arbeiten und Leben in historischen Gebäuden gGmbH, Quartiersmanagement Innenstadt-Beresinchen, the German-Polish civic association "Unsere Miasto-Nasze Stadt" e.V. and the Collegium Polonicum Foundation in Słubice. The project is funded by the "Common Ground" program of the Robert Bosch Stiftung.
