Robert Nissen is a graduate of the Helmholtz Academy for Managers and a certified manager of the Malik Management Center St. Gallen. After working as a research assistant in the German Bundestag, he moved into higher education. At Freie Universität Berlin, he was initially personal assistant to the vice president and later took over as deputy head of the President's Office there. This was followed by positions at the Technical University of Berlin, where he first served as faculty business manager, then as office manager for the chancellor, and has been head of the student services department since October 2016.

"I am delighted that in Robert Nissen we have found such an outstanding candidate for the position of Chancellor at our European University. Mr. Nissen has broad and deep experience in university leadership roles, and we look forward to him as the new head of our university's administration," said Prof. Dr. Eva Kocher, President of the European University Viadrina.

Robert Nissen says about his move to Viadrina: "I am very pleased that in the future I will be able to contribute to good science management with my experience and expertise at one of the most international universities in Germany. I feel great respect for the responsibility and the tasks that are now assigned to me. But above all, I thank you for the trust and look forward to my new job and the cooperation."

The replacement comes as the previous chancellor of the European University Viadrina, Niels Helle-Meyer, has taken up his post as vice president for budget, human resources and technology at Humboldt University Berlin in February 2023.
