Also this year, a large number of road construction measures are taking place on the district roads in Märkisch-Oderland. The district of Märkisch-Oderland currently maintains 178 km of district roads. In addition, there are numerous bridge structures and culverts. To keep this road network permanently in good condition are extensive maintenance and investment measures necessary.
So only in the year 2023 2.9 million euros for complete ceiling renewals but also various small orders such as crack repairs are taken in hand.
Starting in October, the basic expansion of the Sietzinger Dorfstraße will take place on the K 6409. The investment in the approximately 800 meters long road amounts to about 2.3 million euros of which 1.23 million are promoted by the state of Brandenburg.
Rainer Schinkel (alderman and department head):
"An efficient road network is important for the district, its citizens and companies. We are a commuter county and even with increased expansion of public transport or the conversion of the passenger car fleet to alternative drives pushed by federal and state policy, we need roads. We are responsible for the county roads and well advised to reliably provide funds for maintenance and investment in the budget year after year."
Explosive ordnance still a big problem after 78 years
In the Oderbruch region in particular, the enormous explosive ordnance load resulting from battles during the final weeks of World War II continues to pose a major challenge for construction work.
Ammunition, grenades and bombs are sometimes found in large quantities in filled-in trenches or bomb craters along the roads. To salvage and dispose of these professionally requires a lot of time and money.
