Review of a successful first year of the Regional Management Oderland-Spree

Since January 1, 2021, the Regional Management Oderland-Spree supports the municipalities and economic actors on issues related to the topic of commercial and industrial development. A review of a successful first year.

The construction of the TESLA Gigafactory in Grünheide (Mark) attracts considerable investment by suppliers and service companies in East Brandenburg. This concerns both expansions at existing companies and the settlement of new companies.

The Oderland-Spree region with the districts of Oder-Spree and Märkisch-Oderland, the city of Frankfurt (Oder) as well as the PRO EUROPA Viadrina Euroregion and especially the municipalities in the TESLA area have been facing considerable challenges since the start of planning with regard to further settlements, such as a shortage of space, development of the areas and associated legal and organizational issues. With these tasks the municipalities in the region "Oderland-Spree" are supported by the regional management for the support of the TESLA environment development.

This task was intensively pursued in the past year. Thus, not only was an area-specific commercial and industrial land register created, but also a network of economic development agencies in the region was founded, which meets regularly. In addition, direct support was provided to the municipalities and, together, state subsidies were successfully made available to the region, with which industrial site developments were and are being vigorously pushed.

Exciting processes are also planned for the next two years: In 2022, a regional commercial and industrial land monitoring will be launched, the topic of sustainable commercial land development will come into focus, a series of events on the topic of land development will be initiated, and, of course, acute support requests from stakeholders in the region will be responded to.
