The Frankfurt Yearbook 2023 will be presented on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 5 p.m. with musical accompaniment in the St. Marienkirche, Oberkirchplatz 1. Under the title "Geplante Stadt am Strom. Aspects of Frankfurt Building Culture", it focuses on the urban planning heritage of the Oder city.
The focus of the anthology is on the two extensive essays by architect Hans Albeshausen and cultural scientist Antje Wilke. Hans Albeshausen's contribution is dedicated to the former Franciscan Church in Frankfurt, which has played a key role in his professional work in the Oder city since the mid-1960s. In addition, an arc is drawn to other building projects of the architect in Frankfurt as well as in Berlin and Brandenburg.
The article by Antje Wilke deals with the large-scale urban development project Halbe Stadt residential complex. This construction project was intended to give Frankfurt a new and striking urban silhouette from the late 1960s onwards. The new quarter also fulfilled the task of strengthening and revitalizing the city centre, which had been destroyed during the Second World War.
The yearbook also contains other articles on the city's architectural history, including an essay by the recently deceased historian Friedwerd Messow on the initial medieval survey and insights into the history of the use of the Jewish community's cemetery by Potsdam archivist Dr. Falko Neininger.
The book concludes with a contribution by the collective of authors around Magdalena Scherer, Robert Schwaß, Iryna Shulikina, Hannah Voß and Antje Wilke in the documentation of the exhibition "Um Kunst eine Platte machen – Baubezogene Kunst in der Fußgängerzone Große Scharrnstraße".
The Frankfurt Yearbook 2023 is a vivid documentation of the urban heritage of the Oder city, which also encourages readers to explore the many facets of Frankfurt's urban space and view it from new perspectives.
The book presentation offers interested parties an extensive program: After a welcome by Dr. Tim S. Müller, Director of the Viadrina Museum, Dipl.-Ing. Hans Albeshausen and cultural scientist Antje Wilke will provide insights into their contributions. The book launch will be accompanied by music from Rahel Pontigo and Hannah Grabow from the Music School of the City of Frankfurt (Oder). Afterwards, cultural scientists Magdalena Scherer and Antje Wilke will give a guided tour of the two exhibitions "Um Kunst eine Platte machen" and "HALBE STADTansichten", which are currently on display in the Marienkirche.
