Economy in focus at the 7th Municipal Policy Forum in Schönefeld

Under the title "Economic development in the Berlin-Brandenburg airport region", the Dialogforum Airport Berlin Brandenburg invites you to the 7th Municipal Policy Forum. The focus is on the economic dynamics surrounding BER Airport.

Helmut Barthel, Chairman of the Municipal Working Group, says: "The capital region and therefore also the area of the dialog forum is one of the fastest growing regions in Europe. In order to shape this development successfully and not allow any loss of quality of life, close, coordinated cooperation between the federal government, the states of Berlin and Brandenburg and the municipalities is required."

Katrin Müller-Wartig, Head of Department at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor, Energy and Climate Protection (MWAEK) of the state of Brandenburg, will focus on securing skilled workers and the workforce in her keynote speech on economic development in the state of Brandenburg.

From the MWAEK's point of view, the economic development prospects of a region depend more than ever on whether local companies and companies willing to relocate succeed in attracting skilled workers and employees and retaining them in the long term. As the growth engine of the capital region, the airport region offers a highly interesting working environment and exciting employment prospects. Nevertheless, there is a lack of applications across all qualification groups.

On the state side, the MWAEK has formulated a strategic framework for securing skilled workers in the Brandenburg economy with its skilled and labor force strategy. A total of seven key areas of action have been defined and underpinned with activities under the three strategic fields of action of training, retaining and recruiting skilled workers and employees. These include the fact that, in addition to attractive wages, good working conditions also influence the decision of skilled workers and employees to work for a company and thus for a region. The MWAEK considers the municipal policy forum to be an excellent framework for an exchange on the pressing issues of securing skilled workers and the workforce in the airport region. Short presentations on labor market trends, the skilled labor situation and planned commercial and innovation projects in the region will be followed by a panel discussion with representatives from business development, airport management and municipal interest groups. The focus will be on issues relating to job development, regional value creation and inter-municipal cooperation. The event will conclude with an opportunity for informal discussions. The event will take place on Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Haus Dialogforum, Mittelstraße 11 in Schönefeld.

The Municipal Policy Forum is an established format of the Dialogforum that brings together municipal decision-makers, administration, business and the public. The aim is to strengthen the dialog on future topics in the airport region and actively shape development.
