Studying corporate taxation and learning the profession in practice at the same time - this is made possible by the new dual Bachelor's degree course in Business Taxation at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder). Prospective students can enrol on this course for the first time in the winter semester 2025/26 and study for seven semesters while working in tax consulting firms and companies in Berlin and Brandenburg.
Prof. Dr. Christina Elschner, Chair of Business Administration, in particular Finance and Taxation at Viadrina, was in charge of developing the new course. She describes the special features of the Business Taxation course:
"Combining practice and university means that our students learn the basics of business administration, taxes and law at university three days a week - and apply what they have learned in practice on the remaining days of the week. This makes it easier for them to understand the course content and allows them to deal with it in greater depth. And you can finance your own studies at the same time. The course is aimed at those who are equally interested in figures and paragraphs: In tax consultancy, you need both business know-how and knowledge of the law."
Viadrina President Prof. Dr. Eduard Mühle emphasizes: "The newly developed dual degree course is characterized by an unusual academic approach for dual degree courses. With its university character, it clearly stands out from similar dual study programs. Practice-integrated, yet academic - this is how the special features of this new degree course can be highlighted."
By cooperating with tax consulting firms in Frankfurt (Oder) and the surrounding area as well as with larger companies in Berlin and Brandenburg, Viadrina is also strengthening its roots in the region.
The application for the dual study program is initially made via the tax consulting firms. Interested parties apply to one of the cooperating partner companies. These include DOMUS Steuerberatungs-AG, Immunitas Steuerberatungsgesellschaft mbH and BDO Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft. In addition, prospective students can also contact the course directly. They are then referred to the constantly growing number of partner companies. After successfully concluding a study contract, enrolment at the European University Viadrina takes place by 15 September.
The European University is introducing its second dual study program with Business Taxation. Since 2022, prospective auditors have been able to study in parallel at Viadrina and gain practical experience in renowned companies.
