“Pioneering Aerospace” is the theme of this year’s International Aerospace Exhibition (ILA), which will take place at BER Airport from 10 to 14 June 2026. The Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau (TH Wildau) will also be taking part, presenting itself at the Berlin ExpoCenter Airport on the joint exhibition stand of the Berlin-Brandenburg capital region. The university’s exhibition presence will focus in particular on its expertise in the teaching and research areas of airline management and aviation security, flight systems engineering, aeronautical engineering, air traffic engineering and air traffic management.
Just like the aviation pioneers – student project “Design a flying machine!”
A particular highlight of this year’s exhibition is the student project “Develop a flying machine!”, which emerged from the Aircraft Propulsion lecture in the Aeronautical Engineering/Aviation Management degree programme at TH Wildau. The task set for students in this course is to design, build and test a functioning aircraft under real-world conditions. The challenge here is to adopt a strictly low-tech approach. Using the simplest of means and materials, the students had to achieve stable flight characteristics and guarantee a minimum flight time of 30 seconds – including reusability and ensuring safety during the test flight. This project exemplifies what the degree programme in Wildau is all about: practical teaching, applied research, team spirit and the courage to break new ground.&
The course is led by Andreas Deutschmann, Professor of Aeronautical Engineering at TH Wildau. In his research and teaching, he focuses in particular on the analysis and optimisation of complex air traffic systems, as well as the use of AI-supported methods to develop safe and resilient aviation processes.
