Those who visit the German-Polish Tourist Information Office in Frankfurt (Oder) on "Fetter Donnerstag", February 12, and purchase a souvenir or event tickets will receive a free Pfannkuchen.

Analogous to "Weiberfastnacht" in Germany, "Fat Thursday" marks the highlight of the carnival season in Poland. Traditionally, pancakes are eaten on this day before Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the forty-day period of fasting until Easter. In many places, it is customary not to celebrate any major festivals during Lent and to abstain from meat on Fridays.
