An unsparing story about right-wing terror, loss, the failure of the rule of law and the fight for justice will be performed at Frankfurt's Theaterhaus Kleist Forum on 26 February. With "Aus dem Nichts", the Junges Schauspiel of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg has adapted Fatih Akin's award-winning film of the same name into its own version for the stage. The result is an impressive play about a topic that is highly topical in view of current social developments, such as the Europe-wide and international shift to the right, the rise of far-right parties in Germany and plans to deport people with migrant roots.

A brutal nail bomb attack in Hamburg kills Katja Şekerci's husband and her eight-year-old daughter. The public prosecutor's office, police and press suspect that it was an Islamist-motivated act or an act of revenge within the Turkish, Kurdish or Albanian mafia. The family that is the victim of a brutal act of violence becomes the scapegoat. The brutality and inhumanity of the act and the racist actions of the state apparatus cause Katja to despair and her anger to grow. But her best friend and lawyer won't let up and suspects an act of terrorism by Nazis behind the whole thing. Can there be justice in a society that discriminates against people on the basis of their origin and treats them with hatred? Does revenge become an option when the rule of law fails?

The internationally acclaimed Hamburg filmmaker Fatih Akin won the Golden Globe in 2018 with "Out of Nothing". His film sheds light on the fictional case of a Nazi terrorist attack, but makes very clear reference to the NSU murders.
